Dacula Commuters May Be Affected by Hwy. 316 Lane Closures

  • May 7, 2012

Dacula commuters who travel Highway 316 at certain times may want to consider an alternate route for the next few days.

Overnight lane closures are scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on Highway 316 as crews work to merge the Collins Hill Road and Highway 20 intersections.

The left lane of Highway 316 in both directions from Highway 20 to Hi-Hope Road will close at 9 p.m. each night and remain closed until 6 a.m. the following morning. The left turn lane from Highway 316 to Highway 20 may also be affected at times.

The Georgia Department of Transportation advises that delays are expected and motorists should avoid the work zone if possible.

Once the project is completed, the existing intersections will be replaced with ramp access to Highway 316.

“This project will build one interchange or exit to allow traffic from 316 to access 20 or to access Collins Hill Road using a system of long ramps. The existing signalized intersections at State Route 20 and at Collins Hill Road will be removed as the interchange is finished. It is similar to the system we have along I-85 from SR 120 down to Pleasant Hill Road. You get off the mainline of I-85 south at SR 120 and use the parallel roads to access the exit you need,” explained Bayne Smith, Georgia DOT District Engineer, in a GDOT press release.

The Highway 316 project includes 2.23 miles of new roadway and two new bridges. The project has an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2014 and will cost $37.4 million.
