GCPR Takes First Place in State Lifeguarding Competition

The Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation recently finished in first place at the Georgia Recreation and Park Association State Life-Guarding Competition.

Lifeguards attending the July 23 competition were chosen for the GCPR state-bound team after enduring multiple tryouts. The six lifeguards chosen to represent GCPR included Katherine Vaux, Valerie Ward, Robert Johnson, Guido Saccaggi, Stephen Brinkley and Dan Knox.

During the competition, which took place in Clayton County, lifeguards were evaluated on teamwork, athletic ability and life-guarding knowledge. The GCPR lifeguards placed in the top three in all events and finished first in the swim relay event and a critical incident event.

Aquatics Coordinator, Christine Greenfield and Aquatics Supervisor Amanda Groth supervised and coached the team.
