Win for Wyn Foundation Grows to 10 Scholarships With Help From Local Restaurants
At Mill Creek High School football in 2006, a small dream started when Coach Tommy and Stephanie Scott founded The Win for Wyn Foundation to award Win for Wyn Scholarships in memory of their son Wyn at Mill Creek. For five years this $1,000 award was privately funded by them annually to extraordinary young student athletes. Then in May of this past year, the dream that Stephanie had long been harboring to grow the scholarship across Gwinnett County began to take hold.
As the Foundation began garnering individual donations and business sponsorships, a new concept was launched. Win for Wyn Wednesdays that include the participation of the local community provides for the donation of a portion of the proceeds at local restaurants during a given months for the benefit of local scholarships. This has allowed for unprecendented growth that was begun at Mirko Pasta.
Going from one annual Mill Creek scholarship to two Gwinnett county-wide scholarships was accomplished in seven short months as Devin Gillespie of Grayson and Tyler Nemec of North Gwinnett were awarded the inaugural Gwinnett County Win for Wyn Scholarships in December. Then at Mill Creek, three Win for Wyn Scholarships were aptly awarded to Joey St. Clair-Everette, Patrick Waugh, and Jacob Wiley based on their strength, determination, and character. Next at Dacula two inaugural Win for Wyn Scholarships were proudly awarded to Rocky Capobianco and Ryan Malizia with the same criteria that were sponsored by Friends Sports Grill and Fernando's Win for Wyn Wednesdays. Also sponsored by Friends and Fernando's, two inaugural Archer Win for Wyn Scholarships were pleasurably awarded to DeSean Harris and Gavin Culbreth who exemplify the same characteristics as well. In February, sponsored by Del Rio, there will be one Mountain View Win for Wyn Scholarship awarded additionally. This brings the grand total of 2011 Win for Wyn Scholarships to 10.
What is most miraculous about this is all the hope, inspiration and belief culivated from grief. Win for Wyn Scholarships are not just about financial rewards, they provide extra confidence and determination in their Recipients. They are a community wide investment in the future of exceptional young student athletes of Gwinnett County.

Judy and I are proud to be assocated with the Win for Wynn Foundation. Because of our guest support at both, Del Rio and Fernando's we were able to contrubute $3,000.00 to the Win for Wynn Foundation. This makes our restaurants the top contributor to this worthwhile cause. We also congradulate all of the winners of these scholarships. Great job gentelmen!
