Because the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Services has undertaken new initiatives and hosted several events designed to increase adoptions, volunteers are needed at the Gwinnett Animal Shelter.
The ultimate goal is to reduce euthanasia and find every adoptable pet a home, according to a media release issued by the Gwinnett Police Department. Volunteers are an essential part of achieving this goal.
Volunteers are needed to assist with the following activities:
- Walking dogs
- Handling cats and kittens
- Cleaning and sanitizing
- Assisting citizens bonding with animals they wish to adopt
- Special events such as off-site adoptions, fund raisers, etc.
- Clerical duties
Volunteers for the shelter must be 18 years of age, must pass a background check, and must be familiar and comfortable with animals. The shelter hours of operation are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday; noon -4 p.m. Sunday; and closed Monday. Special event times and locations will vary.
The shelter is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville, Ga.
