Dacula Musician to Be Featured on ‘The Bull’
David Leon’s song “Waylon” will be played this Saturday on 94.9 The Bull’s “Backyard Country Radio Show.”
Leon’s song “Waylon” will be featured on the program. Leon said he wrote the song while still a student at Dacula High School.
“When I got into class, rather than work on the assignment (I am not naming the class or the teacher -- I still live in Dacula!), I spent that time writing the song,” he said. “I really feel that country music has been heading in a direction that would make the greats, such as Waylon Jennings, scratch their heads and say ‘What are you people doing?’ ”
The song, which earned Leon Songwriter of the Year honors at the GCGMA Awards in December and is also being featured as the January 2012 “Local Luminary Song of the Month” on the Country Atlanta website, is Leon’s attempt to show his feelings on the subject through the genre he says he loves and to which he is trying to remain true. Leon said he hopes people will vote for him after hearing the song.
“I poured a lot of myself into this song; my thoughts, my beliefs, and I truly do sometimes I wish I were Waylon,” he said.
This is the second time Leon has been featured on the 94.9 show. In June of 2011, his original song “Hatin’ ” was played.
Fourteen acts are listed on this week’s program. In addition to Leon, local artists include Jeremy Herren of Lawrenceville, Angela Reign of Atlanta and the band Silver City out of Cumming.
Listeners can visit the 94.9 website to vote for their favorite artist. The artist with the most votes will remain on the air.
Leon has several shows and festivals scheduled over the next few months in Georgia and Tennessee. His next Dacula performance is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at Friends Sports Grill. Leon is also scheduled to perform in Lawrenceville at at the Virtual Adrenaline Productions Recording Studios inside Discover Mills Mall on Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and at the Reckless Dawn at Sportstime Bar and Grill in Duluth on Feb. 25 at 9:30 p.m.
