My family used to enjoy Fatso's. The last couple of times we have gone in however have put a bad taste in our mouths and we won't go back anymore. The reason, drunks. I could understand if it was 11 PM on a Saturday but when we are going in at 5 PM on a week night, with my wife and two young children and I get to hear the drunks dropping F bombs and cursing every other word, bumping unto our table as they stumble to the bathroom, I'm done. We've had to say something the last two times we went to the drunks asking them to watch their language around my 5 year old daughter and my 8 year old son. The last time I said something, the stumbling drunk made his way to his vehicle and drove off. I gave Gwinnett County his tag but have no idea id he was stopped or not.

I prefer Friends to Fatso's. Their food is better, and the owners and staff are so welcoming and friendly.

Friends! No competition. Love the owners, and staff. They may need to expand pretty soon.

I've been to both.....Friends didn't impress me. The only time we've been was a couple months after it opened and I felt the food was average. At the time they still had the game room open and every time that door was opened you could smell the smoke. (we were sitting in a booth closest to that door). Would I eat there again? Sure, especially considering it's packed pretty much every night. That means someone is doing something right!
Fatso's is hit or miss. My daughter loves the mac and cheese but I've tried several dishes there and it's about 50/50. The meatloaf is terrible, it seemed to be microwaved. Any chicken dish is good and the fish sandwich is too. I've had a good burger and a not-so-good one. The service is average.
So, my vote is for......wait for it...........Taco Mac. More beer, more TVs and much better food. You just have to drive to the mall! Sorry folks but I'll drive right by both of these to get to Taco Mac any day!

Friends is our favorite place. It is comfortable and inviting. We love the staff and of corse, Ray and Suzanne. I have always been a "one restaurant, one menu item" kind of girl, but with Friends, they have so many wonderful choices! My vote is ALWAYS for Friends.

No comparison in my mind. There are not a lot of food establishments that will listen to their customers and make changes for them like Ray & Suzanne have. As for the smoking issue, that was corrected a long time ago because it was an issue. They cater to everyone and make everyone feel welcome which was not the case for us at Fatso's. Friend's continue to do whatever they can to support the community with fund raising events and shows. Their food is good and is comparable to your typical roadhouse type menu. If you have an issue there Ray and Suzanne will do their best to correct it to the best of their ability to keep you as a patron of their restaurant. For a local establishment it's the full package for our family.
Go Pinheads!!

So if you were going to send someone to Friends who has never been before, what dish would you tell them to try?

Kristi, I go to Friend's every Sunday to watch 3 hours of football. I also take my kids there and groups like the Dacula Dolphins, Men's Groups from church, etc...you will not find a more welcoming, a more positive, a more inviting place than Friend's. It all starts with Ray and Suzanne, their daughter, and works all the way to the cooks. The food is very good as I recommend the French Dip, the Cajun Chicken and the wings of course!

Suzanne and I appreciate the support for Friends in this poll. Frankly, while we do believe our restaurant is the best in the area, we have been to Fatso's before and enjoyed it. We also frequent Antoneta's, el Jinete, etc. But, we do try to stay away from places like Taco Mac because they are not in our local community and we always try to spend our money in Dacula.
Also, I probably shouldn't say this, but I will anyway. I am dumbfounded how someone can judge a restaurant having eaten only 1 meal there. But, we do listen to our customers closely and value their opinion.
That being said, let me tell you some reasons to eat at Friends. We cut and trim all of our own steaks. And we guarantee them 100% or your money back. We patty our own burgers fresh every day. All our beef is USDA Choice. We only use white meat chicken - it's never injected with saline solution. All of our sauces are made in the restaurant, from the wing sauces to the side sauces, to the salad dressings. My favorite dish is the Cajun Chicken Pasta. My 2nd favorite is the Loaded French Dip and my 3rd is the Monte Cristo.
And, thank you all for supporting a local business - whether it's Friends or Fatso's.

Ray, you're absolutely correct! There's no way you can judge a restaurant by 1 visit so I'll be in before the weekend is out. Sounds like I need to try a steak.

Looks as if Friends is the winner of this week's restaurant wars. Congratulations! Now, which restaurants should we pit against each other for next week's battle?

McDonalds vs. Burger King. No just kidding! How about...
Luigi's vs. Johnny's
Del Rio vs. Jinete
I like this restaurant wars idea. How about expanding to other things?
Business wars: (Gold's Gym vs. Anytime Fitness) (Great Clips vs. Great Cuts) (Publix vs Kroger) etc.
Subdivision wars? Park wars? Church wars? School wars? It's endless fun!

@Mitch - I like how you think ; ) Great suggestions for the restaurant wars and I'm game to try other wars too. We'll just let everyone battle it out until we have the best of the best in Dacula.

Endless fun indeed Mitch! But I think someone already tried "Church wars". I think they called it "The Crusades" or "The inquisition" or "Jihad" or something else catchy.

@TheLaw.....Why do you take your children to a bar? Not that I excuse rude behavior in the presence of children, but it's avoidable by staying...um....out of bars.

Ray, I was finally able to visit Friends last night and wanted to update my comment. Jamie was our server and was awesome! She kept our glasses full and checked on us regularly. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and my wife had the french dip and they were both excellent. My daughter had mac & cheese (big surprise) and broccoli (surprise) and liked them both. It was my wife's birthday and I very eloquently mentioned that as Jamie was taking our orders and after we were done with our meal out comes Jamie and her crew with an awesome brownie sundae. (it was a really good brownie) That's service right there! I'm coming back on AYCE wing night. You were also installing some new flat screens which look really nice! I'll be back for sure. Keep up the good work.

We always try to do our best to provide the highest quality food and service to our customers. We hope that you and your family come back soon! Thank you!
