Does Being Extremely Obese Make You an Unfit Parent?
A man in Canada recently had his two children taken away by the government for being too fat to take proper care of them. Do you think this was the correct move by the government?
Last week, a Canadian judge ruled that a single father of two was too obese to parent.
As a result, the 39-year-old man from Ottawa was ordered to put his two boys, ages 6 and 7, up for adoption.
According to an article from the United Press International website, the man weighed 380 pounds but had successfully dropped more than 100 pounds from the previous year.
What do you think? Was this the right move by the Canadian government? Can a parent be too obese to parent?

are the kids well-adjusted? clean? healthy? He's lost 100 lb! Is he still trying to improve his weight, in turn, his health? Where are the boys' mother and grandparents? I'd need to know the rest of this family's story to adequately post comment.

I agree with mtd0767 if the man is taking care of his kids then his obesity shouldn't matter to the government. I am like you, I would love to hear the rest of this story.
They should have been turned over to the parents or the grandparents. I feel like they have violated this man's individual rights.

from the article text
"Court heard the father once had two profitable businesses with his estranged wife of three years. One was a lucrative computer business and the other was an illegal marijuana farm. The man acknowledged he was once also a heavy marijuana user himself, but has given it up."
On the weight alone court overstepped, but there are other issues in play here.
