Donate a Pair of Shoes for the Soul

McClain Hermes, a young Dacula resident, is working to reach a new goal of 2,000 pairs of shoes for the homeless and you can help her do it!

Last year, Dacula resident Matt Hermes promised to shave his head if his Well, guess what? Matt went bald because to donate to the Atlanta Mission.

The idea for “Shoes for the Souls” was sparked by the Hermes family back in 2009 when they read an article on how shoe manufacturers were collecting old shoes and recycling them to make new shoes. Hermes asked his daughter (then only eight years old) how she would like to try collecting shoes for the homeless. McClain thought this would be a great idea and started that year by collecting 350 pairs of shoes for the Atlanta Mission.

The Atlanta Mission, established in 1938, is a ministry that provides Atlanta homeless men, women and children emergency shelter, job opportunities, transitional housing and discipleship.

This year, McClain's goal is to collect 2,000 pairs of shoes. Dacula residents can help McClain achieve this goal by searching their homes for new or used shoes that they would be willing to donate. All shoes are accepted, new or used, tennis, running, dress, casual, flip flops, men’s, women’s and children’s.

Donations will be accepted through mid-September. If you or anyone you know has a pair of shoes to donate, please contact Matt Hermes directly at Matt@MattHermes.com  to arrange a pick up or drop off. So far this year the Hermes have collected 200 pairs of “Shoes for the Souls.”
