Drunken Man Restrained in Pool of Own Vomit Until Cops Arrive
Auburn, Ga. man accused of “causing problems” inside bar. Female acquaintance also arrested after screaming profanities at officers.
Patrons at Dos Copas restaurant in Dacula took matters into their own hands when an Auburn man caused a disturbance inside the bar area on the evening of May 29.
By the time Gwinnett County Police arrived at the restaurant, James Driggers, 29, of 1635 River Trace in Auburn, was being held on the ground outside the bar by two other males. Driggers, according to the officer’s report, was lying in a pool of his own vomit. A female acquaintance, Laci Hamm, 29, of 1650 Quail Point Run in Hoschton, was sitting nearby.
The two men who had restrained Driggers explained they attempted to calm Driggers after he “began causing problems” inside the bar.
“When they did so, Driggers turned his anger towards them and began shoving them,” the officer wrote in his report. “Hamm then came out of nowhere and punched one of the males in the face.”
As the officer attempted to determine what had transpired, Hamm allegedly began shouting profanities towards the officer and the other officers at the scene. When she refused to be silent, the officer placed her under arrest for public drunkenness.
Shortly after securing Hamm in the back of the patrol car, Driggers “began acting out like Hamm using very profane language and causing a scene.” Driggers was likewise arrested. He refused to get into the rear of the patrol car and was “escorted into the back seat.”
Before leaving to take Hamm and Driggers to the jail, the officer was approached by the manager of Dos Copas. The manager presented the officer with a $209.76 bar tab belonging to Hamm and Driggers. When the officer asked Driggers if he wished to pay his bar tab, Driggers responded with a profane refusal that included an invitation for the officer to perform oral sex on him.
Driggers and Hamm were transported to the Gwinnett County Jail where they had to be removed from the patrol car by deputies at the jail. Both were charged with public drunkenness and theft of services.
