Election Surprise, Armed Robbers and Miniature Horses
A look at a few of the most notable stories this week on Dacula Patch.
Hunter Edges Past Beaudreau in Runoff for District 3 Commission Seat
This was actually one of the most exciting races I have watched in a long time. I think most people (myself included) figured that Mike Beaudreau would have a relatively easy time of it in the runoff given how close he came to winning the primary outright. Early returns seemed to indicate he would win a third term but then the tide began to change. In the end, Tommy Hunter won by a margin of 56 votes. If you think your vote doesn’t count, remember the outcome of this race next time we have an election.
Armed Robbers Strike at Dacula Cell Phone Store
We’ve had armed robberies in the Dacula area before, but it is still distressing to think our community is as vulnerable to this type of crime as the more urban areas. This robbery occurred in broad daylight, on a Saturday, in the heavily trafficked Kroger shopping center. Be careful, remain alert and, if you see suspicious activity, call 911.
Three Questions With the Mayor: New Business, Friday Night Lights and SEC Pick
I hope you all are taking the time to read Mayor Wilbanks’ updates on the happenings in the City of Dacula. This week, he discussed a new business in town, the upcoming high school football season and he shared his thoughts regarding which team will win the SEC. He and I disagree on that …
Stadium Sports Bar and Grill Now Open
We now have another new restaurant in the Dacula area. Stadium Sports Bar and Grill is located in the same suite that was occupied by KC’s Grub and Pub and Stone Creek Tavern before that. Let’s hope they have better luck than the previous restaurateurs did in that location.
Donations Sought to Help Rescued Miniature Horses
I don’t know what on earth makes people get animals and then mistreat them. Two miniature horses were recently rescued from the brink of starvation and taken to Big Sky Farm in Dacula. A fund has been set up to help defray the cost of the horses’ medical care. Click on the link above to learn how you can help.
