Fly Gwinnett Forward Urges Officials to Move Forward With Privatization of Briscoe Field
Jimmy Norton, of Fly Gwinnett Forward, cites editorial by vice president of The Georgia Public Policy Foundation supporting privatization proposals.
Jimmy Norton with Fly Gwinnett Forward is asking Gwinnett officials to move forward with a proposal to privatize Briscoe Field and is citing an editorial by Benita M. Dodd, vice president of The Georgia Public Policy Foundation, in support of his request. In her editorial, Dodd concludes the recent Hartsfield Jackson study -- that includes a 9,000-foot runaway -- appears to be costly overkill.
“Fly Gwinnett Forward agrees with Ms. Dodd’s assessment and concurs with the facts stated therein,” Norton said in a press release. He went on to encourage regional leaders and Gwinnett County officials to move forward immediately with a Request for Proposals (RFP).
“This is the next step in exploring a unique opportunity to jump-start our economy, reduce the cost of government and bring capital improvement to one of Gwinnett’s most valuable assets, Briscoe Field,” Norton said.
Dodd bases her conclusion on the fact that the proposed 10-gate commercial service would relieve Hartsfield-Jackson, not replace it, and serve aircraft no larger than 737.
However, there has been strong opposition to privatization of Briscoe Field in any form and opponents give much more credence to the Hartsfield Jackson study.
Dodds' editorial can be found at www.gppf.org. The Georgia Public Policy Foundation is an independent think tank that is reported to propose practical, market-oriented approaches to public policy to improve the lives of Georgians.

I say no to any privatization or expansion of Briscoe that would allow planes as large as a 737! The plane is over 100 feet long and seats 120-170 depending on model. It is the size of a small house! Many neighborhoods lie in the flight paths for Briscoe and would be affected by the increased noise and air pollution from these planes on takeoff and landing. Traffic is already jammed half of the day on 316 and the feeder roads, and the airport would only create more congestion. I say no to Briscoe expansion!

Was this airport in place before the houses you mention were? Was the airportr there when the people came to buy those houses?

Benita Dodd "ain't got a clue" to the downside of the FAA Privatization Program. She has been advised accordingly. Read Jim Reagan's blog in today's (Friday) Patch. If you can get your foot in the door at the Flying Machine Restaurant Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 7:30 PM,, Congressman Rob Woodall will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Founding Fathers Tea Party Patriots. I expect Congressman Woddall will be duly "educated" on this issue.
