Public Hearings Set to Discuss Widening I-85, Extending HOT Lanes Northward
The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to hold two public hearings in March.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled two public hearings in March to discuss extending the I-85 HOT lanes another 10 miles northward.
The first hearing will be held March 21 at 4 p.m. at the Gwinnett Center Atrium located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth. The second hearing will take place March 28 at 4 p.m. in Braselton. The meeting will be held in the community room of the Braselton Municipal building located at 4982 Highway 53, Braselton.
The GDOT wants to extend the toll lanes from Old Peachtree Road near Suwanee to Hamilton Mill Road, in the Dacula and Buford areas or possibly Chateau Elan near Braselton. As part of the project, an additional lane would be constructed to avoid losing capacity in the free lanes.

Kristi, I will be attending the public hearing in Braselton on Thursday, March 28th. As I understand it, the public hearing will be a come and go bewteen 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Would you please verify this.

This is another waste of tax payers money. Agree that we need another lane going north on 85 above 985 all the way to South Carolina ,but not this way. If you are going to use public tax funds then these lanes need to be opened to any one who wants to use it. You will only make more congestion on 85 with longer wait times. it is time to end the HOT lanes and send Evans and STRA to the unemployment lines. Like you Mr. Orr will be at this meeting as well.

This is a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. Agree that we do need another lane on 85 north of 985 that goes all the way to South Carolina, but not this way. This will only increase congestion more on 85 than we now have. One only has to take a look at the HOT lanes now. It is time to send Evans and all of STRA to the unemployment lines once and for all. We do not need HOT lanes. It is double dipping into our wallets. We pay to build the road then have to pay again if we want to use it. It is a sham and as a former New Yorker who has seen tolls grow to 15.00 to cross a bridge we are on a slippery slope of government waste!

Is the new lane and maintenance going to be paid by the revenue generated by the tolls, verses the current HOT lanes which basically stole a lane?
