A local restaurant voluntarily closed after failing two consecutive health inspections.

According to the East Metro Health District website, Famous Joe’s, located at 3290 Hamilton Mill Road in Buford, “voluntarily closed for earning a grade of ‘U’ on a follow-up inspection, after receiving a grade of ‘U’ on the last routine inspection.”

On Sept. 24, Famous Joe’s scored a 55 during its health inspection. Click here to read the full report.

During the follow-up inspection on Oct. 2, the restaurant scored a 68. The full report is available here.

Another follow-up inspection was held on Oct. 3. The restaurant scored a 99. Click here to read the full report.

I am a loyal customer of Famous Joe's and visit them almost daily. The scores implemented by Gwinnett county are petty in nature including, 1. Not having a Employees must was hands sign in the bathroom, 2. The Ash tray was located too close to the front door and even more petty stuff like that. The county took pointes off for items that would not effect the quality of service and food. They closed simply to fix the problems at hand verses being shut down for several days by the county. Famous Joe's is a well maintained family based restaurant and does not deserve the negative publicity that Gwinnett County has dealt them. Please don't be quick to judge this excellent establishment. Famous Joes was re-tested by the County on October 3, 2012 and scored a 99 established by Gwinnett County Health Department.

Jason, I agree that some of the findings were petty, but they knowing substituted a fish that has questionable origins for grouper. Google Pangasius...
Violation of Code: [.04(7)(b) ] Pangasius is listed as Grouper on the menu. Foods are not honestly presented. New Violation.
That is bad. Fruit flies in the liquer bottles? Yuck!
I hope that the owners and managers take it more seriously and follow the codes as written, they have them for a reason.
With that being said, I will be returning to Famous Joe's this weekend to show my support (assuming they are back open).
