Lock Punching Incident Captured on Video Surveillance

Woman's Ford Expedition was broken into while she worked out at Anytime Fitness on Hamilton Creek Parkway in Dacula.

Video surveillance at a Dacula workout facility captured a suspect breaking into two cars during the early evening hours of Feb. 4.

A Buford woman called Gwinnett County Police after leaving Anytime Fitness and noticing the lock on her 2006 Ford Expedition had been punched. A Sony digital camera, an iPhone 4 and a Dell computer were reported stolen.

The officer reviewed the facility's surveillance footage, which showed a male subject in a late model silver Chevrolet Suburban park next to the Expedition. The video showed the male open the door of the Expedition and spend a few seconds in the vehicle. The Suburban was then seen pulling away and parking next to another vehicle.

"The unknown subject spent a few seconds at the other vehicle and pull[ed] off," the officer wrote.

The owner of the second vehicle indicated nothing had been taken.

The case is just one of several involving punched locks currently under investigation by the Gwinnett County Police Department.

On Jan. 31, two handguns, an aviation radio and other items were stolen after the locks on two Ford F-150s were punched at the Regal Hamilton Mill Stadium 14 theater.

Ford trucks were also targeted during a series of break-ins on Jan. 19. Though many of the break-ins have been at the Mall of Georgia, others have occurred at restaurants, retail establishments and fitness centers.

It would be nice if the Police would give us citizens a little more desription to go on, like approx age, race, height, etc. With all of us patchers out there, I bet one of us would see him......

Much agreed Cowboy. My vehicle was parked in the parking lot there at that exact time, I always see people sitting in running vehicles parked out front there and am always Leary of them.
