Man Charged With Pointing Gun During Road Rage Incident

Confrontation between two Hamilton Mill residents occurred at the intersection of Hamilton Mill Road and Braselton Highway.

A Dacula man’s irritation over another man’s driving led to a May 18 confrontation at the intersection of Hamilton Mill Road and Braselton Highway.

According to the Gwinnett County Police incident report, the victim was on the way home from a Hamilton Mill area restaurant with his two children, ages 10 and 12, when he stopped in the turn lane on Hamilton Mill Road waiting to turn left onto Braselton Highway. The victim told police that a man, later identified as Charlton Kinkead, 45, of 3614 Autumn Sage Court in Dacula, pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and screamed at him to “watch his driving.”

The victim said he and Kinkead began arguing. Kinkead then allegedly pulled out a black revolver, pointed it at the victim and then placed the weapon on his dashboard. The victim said he immediately stopped arguing with Kinkead and fell behind him once both vehicles turned left onto Braselton Highway.

The victim called 911 and followed Kinkead until they reached the Hamilton Mill subdivision where both men live.

When interviewed by police, Kinkead said the victim had cut him off in traffic nearly causing an accident. Kinkead said he pulled alongside the victim and “told [the victim] to drive more carefully.” According to Kinkead, the victim yelled, “I’m going to kick your ass!” Kinkead said that threat prompted him to remove his revolver and place it on the dashboard to show the other man he was armed. Kinkead said the victim continued to yell at him and mock him from the intersection of Hamilton Mill Road and Braselton Highway to the intersection of Braselton Highway and Jim Moore Road. Kinkead said the victim followed him all the way home.
