Mill Creek Outruns Dacula

Visiting Apalachee and Winder-Barrow teams also fall to the Hawks.

easily handled all comers at Monday afternoon’s track and field meet, defeating cross-town rival and two visiting Barrow County teams – Apalachee High School and Winder-Barrow High School.

The Hawks won 15 of 17 events in the men’s division for a final score of 119.50. Apalachee finished a distant second with 24 followed by Dacula with 23.5 and Winder-Barrow with one point.

First place finishers for Mill Creek included Tyler Cierski in discus with a throw of 145’9”. Cierski also won the shot put competition with a throw of 49’ 3.25”. Mason Sheats cleared 13’2” to win the pole vault competition and Macky McLee cleared 6’2” to win the high jump. McLee also won the 300m hurdles (41.06) and the 100m hurdles (15.56). Other first place finishes for the Hawks included Eric Westog (3200m, 10:18.38), Austin Boetje (1200m, 4:26.22 and 800m, 2:04.87), Zack Davis (400m, 52.25 and 200m, 22.55) and Jordan Marshall (100m, 11.07). In the team running events, Mill Creek “A” won the 4x800 with a time of 9:54.40, Mill Creek “D” won the 4x400 (3:40.64) and Mill Creek “A” won the 4x100 (43.58).

Jermaine Smith of Apalachee finished first in the long jump (21’) and triple jump (41’6”).   

In the women’s division, the Lady Hawks placed first with 61 points followed by Dacula with 52. Winder-Barrow finished in third with 35 and Apalachee was last with 30.

Mill Creek won four of the 17 events. First place finishes for the Lady Hawks included Lauren Scott (1600m, 5:32.96), Shannon Jordan (300m hurdles, 50.27) and Chinenyenwa Okoye (discus, 115’3”). In the team running events, Mill Creek “A” won the 4x800 with a time of 12:09.92.

Dacula took first in six events. Shania Norman won the 100m with a time of 12.85 and Nichelle Irish won the 400m with a time of 1:05.17. Other first place finishers were Anazjah Mayes (800m, 2:35.17), Haley Nagle (pole vault, 8’6”) and Anna Machovec (shot put, 37’). Dacula “A” also won the 4x400 event with a time of 4:26.06.

Apalachee’s Lady Wildcats won four events. Top finishers for AHS included Dennia Ernest (200m, 26.71 and high jump, 5’3”) and Constance Martin (triple jump, 32’1.5”). Apalachee also won the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.61.

The Lady Bulldoggs of Winder Barrow took first in three events. Brittany Witt won the long jump with a distance of 15’7”, Ja’Lesia Jackson took first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.36 and Amanda Cope won the 3200m with a time of 12:12.87.
