Police 'Fairly Certain' About Identity of Skeletal Remains

Dental records are being examined.

Gwinnett County Police continue to pursue leads as to the identity of a deceased person located in a wooded area off Harbins Road on June 25.

According to Gwinnett County Police Department public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith, investigators are attempting to confirm the identity of the deceased using dental records. Smith said the remains had been at the location long enough that pieces had been carried away by animals, yet investigators were not left without clues to the person’s identity.

β€œThey are fairly certain they know who the remains belong to,” Smith said.

The were discovered as a nearby resident was attempting to catch his dog. The man, who lives in the 1700 block of Harbins Road, . The small field and wooded area are located between two houses situated less than 100 yards apart. GCPD detectives and crime scene investigators used saws to cut away brush in order to access the remains.

Smith said more details would be released once the identification of the deceased is confirmed and family members are notified.
