Police Seize 100 Pounds of Marijuana
Traffic stop made on I-85 north of Hamilton Mill Road.
A March 7 traffic stop on I-85 northbound near Flowery Branch Road ended in the discovery of approximately 100 pounds of marijuana.
An officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department’s Highway Interdiction Team (HIT) was monitoring traffic on I-85 near Hamilton Mill Road when he noticed a blue Ford Five Hundred pass by with a tag light violation.
During the subsequent traffic stop, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 33-year-old Tyrone Davis Alexander of Greenville, S. C., provided the officer with a false driver’s license and made “inconsistent” statements regarding his travels.
According to a GCPD press release, the officer established probable cause to search the vehicle with the use of a narcotics K-9. After the K-9 alerted to the odor of drugs in the vehicle, the officer searched the vehicle and found two large black trash bags in the trunk of the vehicle. The bags contained five bricks of marijuana and one large Ziploc bag containing additional marijuana. The total weight of the seized drugs was approximately 101 pounds.
Alexander was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, false documents and driving with a suspended license.
He is being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
