Police Tentatively Identify Body Found in Dacula Field

Remains believed to be those of a woman missing since 2006.

Gwinnett County Police have tentatively identified the body found June 25 in a field off Harbins Road.

Gwinnett County Police Department public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith said investigators are “99.9 percent certain” the remains are those of Rhonda Bingham, a Dacula woman missing since 2006.

“None of that is confirmed, but they strongly suspect it is her,” Smith said. According to Smith, investigators are still awaiting the results of DNA tests for final confirmation, but met with Bingham’s family earlier today.

Bingham’s remains were found in a wooded area adjacent to a small field in the 1700 block of Harbins Road. Smith said the remains were located a short distance from where Bingham’s car was recovered after she was originally reported missing.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the cause of death but do not currently suspect foul play, Smith said. Toxicology results are still pending, Smith added.

KRISTI, How many bodies does that make that have been found in the Dacula area?
1) dead male body in house under bed
2) this woman in field
3) male over in park behind library
4) male body off path in park
5) Toyna's in well AUBURN (miles away)
These are the ones that come to mind. Do the police have a theory as to why the Dacula area is experiencing being a "dead drop" zone?

Yea it seems weird to me that no one seems to be pointing that out. Question...what male behind the library? I didn't hear about that one. There were also 2 dead bodies close to where I live on New Hope Rd. (I am also only about a min away from where this one was discovered). I noticed they have mowed down the field now where the body was found.

Cynthia PLEASE!! body counts? theory's? "dead drop" zone. You sound like a writer for the Jerry Springer show. There has been NO dead body found behind the library. The article here you are commenting on states the woman had been missing since 2006. The young man found @ Mulberry Park commited suicide. There has not been one spec of info released from ANY law enforcement agency that evens hints @ connecting these deaths. For someone that is supposed to love Dacula as much as you say you do, I encourage you to rethink those comments. Unfortunate coincidences YES - body counts, theory's & dead drop zones ABSOLUTELY NOT.

After living in our wonderful little piece of heaven for over 30 years and NEVER hearing about any dead bodies in 30 years, it is a SHOCK for me to hear, week after week, that another dead body has been found - NO MATTER when or where it was deposited! There was disagreement about which park a male body was found in YET, he was indeed another person that died in our town under unusual circumstances. Mr Fox, I am unsure how long you have been living here but, after this summer, our quiet little, NO DEAD BODIES FOUND, town can NO LONGER say this. It is easy to see change if you have been a viewer for a long period of time. LeeAnn has also been noticing the high number as well. Might you be in the law enforcement area Mr Fox? I am not. I stand by my comment as to the unusual high number of deaths being found in our little town. I make the comment because I love Dacula not because I love crime in my town. As to Jerry Springer, he came to your mind not mine. My theory is the economy is pushing otherwise coping citizens into despair. Let's all raise our glasses to the rest of our summer being one of dreaminess instead of death.

Agreed. No matter how they died, it made for an unusual summer for Dacula. We are only pointing out coincidences. First of all, the man found on Harbins rd in 2008 WAS a murder victim. A missing woman found only a couple houses down this summer (and I am NOT saying they are connected) is not strange? How did these houses SO close to that area not smell a decomposition. Why did two people drive into a wooded area/service road and end up dead together and no foul play is suspected? Until they tell us what really happened in OUR community, we can go on common sense that something is just not right about that. It is news that makes people uncomfortable...and apparently a little angry. Everyone has a right to their own interpretation and theorizing. Until facts are sorted out, well...we can speculate all we want.

The amount and frequency of news was not available like it is today. Today, we have a constant on-slaught of news, everywhere we look. Every channel, every website. Local news, cable news, national news, world news. These channels and shows have to fill their time with something "newsworthy".

While there has been an increase in crime, with the economy, jobs, etc the way they are now, there has always been crime. You just haven't had it thrown in your face like you do today.

Listening to the news does not make one educated. There is very little time to tell the story, so 99% of the time, important details and often entire components of thr story are left out. News outlets also often slant the news in favor of one side or the other. Want to know what's going on in your area, listen to Police Scanners. Then you can get a true picture of what's really going on, how often it's going on and the locations of where most issues occur.

In a world where a sound bite is how we get our news, I am glad to get the news from the PATCH. A gate keeper is the one that puts forth the "slant" of a story yet as a past news reported we decide, from the facts at hand, at the given time, which and how to present a story/news item. Today I feel many national news outlets are going back to the day of "Yellow Journalism" regretfully. Too many time we are hearing their "projected" opinions instead of hard news. Still, the reality is 10 people can read or see the same news item and all come away with a difference view because of their own personal life experiences. Still, a death is a death and an untimely death is news in the hearts of most people.

I am not surprised that the death rate in Dacula is one per person.

We have lived within the city limits of Dacula since 1984, and I remember reports of dead bodies in Dacula over the years. What is reported NOW in the news as Dacula, also includes the communities of Harbins and Hog Mountain, and the great forested area that turned into Hamilton Mill. I am just guessing, but there are probably 10 times the number of people in what is Dacula now than what was considered the Dacula area and population 30 years ago. The number of mysterious deaths reported may have increased, but not the proportion for the population. I am not alarmed. All is well.

I have to agree with Kevin, Cynthia. The body of a woman close to where her car was abandoned, the body of a suicide victim and an old man who died in a house he might have wandered into, does not constitute worries that we are a body dumping ground or are the new home of serial killers, for heavens sake! And Karen hit it right on the head- Dacula has grown exponentially since I moved here from Fl some 20 yrs ago. With an expanding population comes more opportunity for crime and there are plenty of wicked folks who wont miss a single opportunity. But these three victims might very well have all been suicides, or perhaps the old man had alzhiemers and had an undiagnosed serious condition. We can only surmise what ended their three lives until we get full reports from a coroner. Until then, lets' not assume that our fine little city is at the vortex of some Bermuda triangle type of mystery! We have enough other crime- oodles of car breakins, assaults, a public exposure, a car jacking, and an armed robbery to deal with. Let's not focus our imaginations on these "found" bodies. Instead, let's concentrate on how we can make our city safer and less likely to be the victim of the rash of crimes we've seen in the past month.

Gwinnett encrypted their radio traffic. Fire and Rescue is still available. You can listen to Barrow which incorporates Auburn.
