Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Ordinance Revisions
On March 1, citizens will have the opportunity to speak regarding the proposed revisions to Dacula’s planned mixed-use development ordinance.
On Thursday, March 1, the Dacula City Council will decide whether to revise the city’s planned mixed-use development (PMUD) ordinance. A public hearing on the proposed revisions will be held prior to the vote.
The revised ordinance would increase the maximum allowable housing density per acre from eight units to 13, the same as allowed by Gwinnett County. A maximum of 40 percent of the property could be developed as apartments after 25 percent is dedicated to open space.
If the revisions are approved, an investment group is expected to request that 157 acres be annexed into the city for the purpose of developing a “live, work, play” community that could include apartments.
Council will also vote on a proposed curbside recycling contract and whether or not to expand the gazebo project to include sidewalks.
The Dacula City Council meets at Dacula City Hall, 442 Harbins Road, Dacula. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Kristi, Is there a better view of the proposed community for us to see. It looks like all apartments on this proposal. Do you know where we could see a diagram that is readable. Is this all apartments and townhouses or are there some homes in this community? I have enlarged it 5 times but the writing is still too blurry to see what is going on here. Thanks for the info.

Cynthia - I just added some enlarged photos. Keep in mind this is just a concept plan. This may be nothing like what is eventually built if the city revises its ordinance and if the property is annexed.

Hi Steve - My bad. I got in a hurry and left that very critical piece of information off. It's at 7 p.m. at Dacula City Hall.

WOW that is pretty powerful. I do not know of another plan quite like this other than maybe up at i-75 and 285 where the Waverly Hotel is located. And they do not have apartments at that location. THIS would change the entire feel of Dacula. I am torn between this and the debate at the Flying Machine! Kristi, are you going to tape this meeting for the citizens of the area, like you did the debates?

Hi Cynthia - I plan to videotape the meeting. It is too bad the meetings are on the same night. Both should be interesting.

Are they taking questions or just presenting and voting on the layout and changes?Hate to miss the opportunity to ask questions but with it being election season, it gets busy!
