An Auburn man and his family escaped injury after a bullet passed through the rear wall of a Pleasure Ives Court home, through the bathroom walls and into the bedroom where the homeowners lay sleeping.

The incident occurred just before midnight on June 19 in the Mineral Springs Crossing subdivision. The rear of the victim’s house faces Clack Road and, according to the police report, the bullet was fired from that direction. The report indicates the bullet lodged in the brick front wall of the home after passing through the rest of the house.

Officers were unable to locate the shooter or any shell casings.

In an email to Dacula Patch, the victim, Jeremy Diers, wrote, “To make a long story short, it looks like someone was shooting at street signs on Clack Road, directly behind my house, and didn’t think about the consequences.”

Diers and his family are concerned that this sort of incident could recur.

“It was very scary and now my family lives with the dread that it could happen again as we have heard this type of gunfire in the area before but this was the first time that a bullet hit our house,” he wrote.

Though no one was injured, Diers explained he and his family know the results of the stray gunfire could have been very different. 

“The really scary part is the ‘what ifs’ your mind thinks of later,” he wrote. “Luckily no one was up or the outcome could have been much worse.”

In his email, Diers added that he hopes whoever was responsible for the gunfire will realize how dangerous their actions were.

“Maybe if the person that did this reads the Patch, sees that the actions impacted a family and that it could have been much worse, they wouldn’t shoot at street signs in the future,” he wrote.

The case is listed as active.
