Usher's Stepson Reportedly Brain Dead After Lake Lanier Accident
Kyle Glover, son of Usher's estranged wife Tameka Foster, was struck in the head by a passing jet ski while riding an inner tube on Friday at Lake Lanier.
The 11-year-old stepson of music superstar Usher has been declared brain dead according to entertainment website TMZ.com. No decision has yet been made as to whether or not to remove the child from life support.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Kyle Glover and a 15-year-old girl were being pulled on an inner tube behind a boat when they were struck by a passing jet ski on Friday. Both were life-flighted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Glover, according to WSBtv.com, was unresponsive at the scene. The girl sustained a broken arm and a laceration to her head.
WSBtv.com reported that two DNR rangers witnessed Friday's crash and pulled one of the children out of the water while a nearby boater rescued the other child.
The incident is the latest in a string of serious accidents this year at Lake Lanier. Two young boys -- Griffin Prince, 11, and Jake Prince, 9, were killed June 21 when when the pontoon boat on which they were riding was struck by a boat reportedly driven by Paul J. Bennett, 44, of Cumming. Bennett was subsequently arrested and charged with boating under the influence. An April 21 boating collision claimed the life of a 59-year-old Duluth man and seriously injured a Milledgeville woman.
The Gwinnett County Police Department and rangers from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division recently announced a boating safety initiative designed to increase the number of patrol boats and law enforcement officers on Lake Lanier in an effort to make the lake safer for citizens.

the lake has many boaters and many of them do not heed no-wake zone marker bouys and boating laws. The jet skiers are the most reckless of the pleasure boaters.
There are many that go full bore through no wake zones and very close to anchored boaters and tubers.T

For starters:
1. Immediately restrict all power boats from the lake
2. Establish a policy to never allow jet skiis or wave runners. People who use them do not understand boating rules anyway.
3. Assess if the geographics of the lake should even have power boats. Perhaps it should not allow them at all and only kayaks, row boats, etc.
4. Most importantly the STATE must mandate and enforce a strict boating license for any driver at any lake in that State. NEVER allow a drive to have any alcohol while driving a boat. Never to allow any alcohol on the boat period. Establish a boating driving school and only give licences to those who are capable of following the laws.
5. Consider executing anyone who drives a boat under the influence and who drives reckless.

1. Lake Lanier is certainly large enough to allow power boats.
2. Not everyone that uses jet skis are irresponsible. Better training and enforcement of laws should help this problem.
3. Repeat #1.
4. Boating licenses may help with item #2. There are laws regarding boating under the influence just like with cars. Certainly enforcing these laws is critical to safe driving/boating.
5. Only if they are public executions.
You mention alcohol several times but it was established that alcohol was not a factor in this tragic accident.

Speed limit on the lake

Lake lanier is certainly large enough for power boats. There are plenty of smaller lakes and ponds for row boats. All operators should be required to have passed a boater safety course. We must have registration on board at all times; just add a safety course certificate for all operators (and require it at rental places) and at least we can be assured that everyone is aware of boating laws and safe operation. All three of our drivers have taken and passed the test and we keep the certificates on board with other required paperwork. Most boat OWNERS know these rules, but the rent-a-boaters often seem surprised that there are regulations at all. I want to support rental businesses, but they could do a better job of making sure people know the rules. Handing out a pamphlet isn't cutting it. Without any legislation, they could band together to require that all leasees provide a boater safety certificate before renting their equipment. Boat owners on the lake would appreciate it!

i thank they should pass the boaters licences here just like a few other state have there has been to many accidents this yr in this one lake .... ppl dont care how the drive boats as well as cars to many ppl have lost there life do to ppl who are careless and dont care i thank it should be closes from my stand point..a safety course should be done also.i thank rangers should be in the water at all time giving tickets to ppl who are careless and speeding a speed limit in every area of the water and the rangers should search every boat in water and before entering the water for drugs and alcohol..i dont see a problem with drinking but i mean really ppl
