Woodall Named to U.S. House Budget Committee

Freshman Congressman renews pledge to reform nation's spending practices.

Freshman Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA) has been assigned to the important House Budget Committee. Chaired by Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Budget Committee is responsible for writing Congress' overall budget plan for the fiscal year.

“I’m eager to go to work with Chairman Ryan and establish a budget that drives policy and not the other way around, ” Woodall said in a statement announcing his appointment. Woodall’s Seventh District includes all of Barrow and Walton counties, most of Gwinnett County, and portions of Forsyth and Newton counties.

“The House Budget Committee welcomes Congressman Rob Woodall, a fierce advocate for fiscal discipline, limited government, and pro-growth economic reforms,” said Ryan in a statement he issued on Woodall’s appointment. “I look forward to working with and learning from Rob, as we chart a new course to put Washington’s fiscal house in order and help tackle our nation’s most pressing fiscal and economic challenges.”

Woodall began his service on the Budget Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives this week.

“We are only 30 days into the new Congress and, of the bills we have passed, not one of them has been over five pages -- this includes the very first bill that cut Congress’ own spending,” Woodall said. “This is a step in the right direction, but we need more -- we need drastic spending cuts and an overhaul of our nation’s tax code.”

Woodall said in an earlier statement that he supports Chairman Ryan’s proposed Fiscal Year 2011 budget blueprint.

Woodall is also a member of the House Committee on Rules, which determines how bills come to the House Floor for consideration.

“I made a promise to the Seventh District that I would hold my fellow Members of Congress accountable, and that I would work tirelessly to reform government spending practices in the effort to spur economic growth our country so desperately needs,” Woodall said.  “By serving on the House Committee on Rules, I get to hold Congress accountable by putting clean bills on the House Floor.  As a member of the House Budget Committee, I will be able to work directly with Chairman Ryan to shape our FY2011 Budget into a responsible blueprint our nation can be proud of.”
