Brookton Place Gets Website, Get One for Your Neighborhood on Nextdoor.com

It only took 10 years, but Brookton Place in Dacula finally has a website! Nextdoor.com offers free neighborhood websites where residents can plug in and stay informed. The only requirement is that 10 residents join the site in the first 15 days. You can invite your neighbors either by email or the site will actually mail postcards to residents and pay for the postage.

It's a private social network for your neighborhood!

For subdivisions without an active HOA, this is a great way to stay informed and it's FREE TO JOIN! Residents only need to verify their address either with a phone call or a postcard. Enter the code given on the site and you're in.

If you're a resident of Brookton Place, go to https://brooktonplace.nextdoor.com/login/ to sign up FOR FREE! Please do so before Jan 22 so the site will stay active.

If you're not, go to https://nextdoor.com/ and start one for your neighborhood!

I saw this on the news recently and thought it was great. If someone doesn't take the time to start this soon in Hmill I'm going to try to myself. Great way to meet you neighbors.

Go for it Santa. You know we can come up with 10 to join in no time. It looks nice.

Steve,

How is the site funded? Are there a ton of ads? Does it have a message board?

It looks nice and clean from what I can see of the screenshot.

I've known about it for a while but never took the time to look into it. Someone in my office suggested it because they had created one for their neighborhood and it really took off.

I was wondering about the funding too. Then I read the FAQ and found this...

"How does Nextdoor make money?

Nextdoor is funded by Benchmark Capital and Shasta Ventures, and is focused on building a great product first and foremost. We will not sell your information to advertisers, or inundate you with banner ads and pop-ups.

Long-term, we hope to build a revenue model around working with local businesses to provide a special offers section of the website"

The site is very clean with no ads and hopefully they'll keep it that way. You can choose how much or how little your neighbors know about you. It's a win-win as far as I can see

We (I say we because apparently two of us were trying to set it up at the same time) just set one up for our neighborhood and we'll see how it goes. I need to edit the neighborhood boundaries though and cannot see how to do it. I left off a street drawing the map.

Santa, a lot of people rely on the HOA website for information but that info is regulated by the HOA. As long as people don't use it as a platform for their personal agenda, it could be a great place to connect.

Kristi, I emailed their support last night after 11pm for that very thing and a guy named Garrett emailed me at 2:20am and said he would fix it. He asked me to send him the streets I wanted to add. I sent a screen shot to him because it wasn't the entire street. So just send an email to support and they'll get on it apparently!

Great! I really like the photo upload. It was nice and easy. The site seems easy to navigate.

Hi Steve,

They have already emailed back and asked for the missing streets. I did what you did and sent screen shots since I had parts of streets missing. I didn't expect to hear from them on a Sunday, but I think it is great they replied so quickly.
