The Mother of All Surprises!!

Shirley Lasseter and Mike Beaudreau stated yesterday that their appointees to the Citizens Review Committee commented that "there is a stalemate" and "some people are not open-minded"!

Realistically, take a look at what has happened here. On Dec. 6 at the public meeting, several committee members stated that they wanted to be done by Christmas, whether a recommendation was ready for the Board or not. The deadline for the recommendation is Feb. 8. These same members also said that "there is no way this committee can come to consensus on what to recommend to the Board, so why waste our time?"

These members ultimately pulled off the mother of all surprises when they preplanned a resolution to dissolve the committee and presented it at the Dec. 20 committee meeting! The committee wasn't even close to being able to make a recommendation to the board. The committee was not evenly divided on the issue of commercialization. There was no discussion of any recommendation. When the RFP was issued, these folks decided to "get back" at the board by attempting to dissolve the committee and force the board to complete environmental and economic studies immediately.

These actions will come back to haunt these sneaky, underhanded members. Come, see for yourself as I have ... be a part of the public listening to what ACTUALLY happens at the APCRC meetings.

Funny thing about having an open mind, it can mean many things but it doesn’t require one to AGREE completely with or surrender to any predetermined position.

Open Minded
1: having or showing a mind receptive to new ideas or arguments.
2. unprejudiced; unbigoted; impartial. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/open-minded

Open Mind (horse), American Champion racehorse Open Mind (album), 1984 album by Jean-Luc Ponty The Open Mind, a psychedelic rock band from London, England, from late 1960s.

Exactly, R...and the volunteers on this committee displayed a receptive attitude to all sorts of info/research and gave many, many impartial comments indicating that quite possibly a consensus can be found!

Der Kommisar Beaudreau is not pleased...and we, the citizens, shall pay for it.

The proper way to dissolve this issue is to replace the people that dont agree with people that agree... bing bang boom your done by christmas . So what are you waiting for Mike !! Sounds like insubordination to me.

They're just like little kids, they don't get their way, they'll change the rules so they do. They (he?) should be recalled and then thrown in jail. What gall and presumption.

At this point that is unknown. The BOC will decide whether to reject the resolution to dissolve or direct the committee to continue meetings.

Well stated and exactly my take on the process and the final "surprise". I emailed our Commissioners and suggested that all who voted to dissolve the Citizens Review Committee should be replaced with those who want to work through the process and give the citizens a voice.

Better Gwinnett, I respectfully disagree. The Mother of All Surprises may well have been the pre-bid conference. Alllow me to "paint a portriat" of the airport issue as I see it. The "portriat" is my personal opinion and as such, is pure speculation on my part. First comes RFQ's. DONE! Next comes RFP's. Due February 8, 2012. Next comes a Pre-Bid Conference. DONE! Next comes receipt of the RFP's on February 8, 2012, at which time the successful bidder will be announced pending further review. Next comes a review by county staff of the RFP's submitted. After the numbers are "churned" by county satff on the RFP's submitted, the successful bidder's RFP moves forward. Next comes a recommendation to the BOC by county staff. I project county staff's recommendation will be to approve. Next comes the BOC 10 AM Work Session. I project the BOC will follow county staff's recommendation by a 3 - 2 vote. Award of the RFP could come via way of Consent Agenda during the morning work session or move forward to the 2 PM Business Session which after discussion, will pass by a 3 - 2 vote. Next comes privatization of Gwinnett County Airport Briscoe Field with an option, if exercised, will see the inclusion of commercial airline service.
