Of all the character traits and truths we can teach children about God, I believe there are two vital truths that every child needs to understand. If they can grasp them, the rest of their faith journey can be built on these fundamental truths. So here they are…
God Is Our Creator. Knowing that God is our Creator teaches kids to praise God for all that he has made. This helps them understand that they’re not here by accident but that God has “wonderfully and fearfully made” them. Because God is our creator, He is worthy of our trust and obedience.
God Loves Us. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love Him because He first loved us.” For our children to love God they must know the love of God. Not only did God create the world, but God “so love the world that He gave His one and only Son.” OUr kids need to know that they can have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Because God loves us, he is worthy to be our Lord and deserving of our commitment.
By teaching our children that God made them and that God loves them, we’re introducing them to a Heavenly Father they can follow for the rest of their lives.
What would you add as foundational truths to introduce your kids to God?

These same truths should be used to teach adults about God. One of my favorite songs, "Victory in Jesus", says, "He loved me 'ere I knew Him". He loves all of us - even those people who are, unless we abide by our directive to love our neighbor as ourselves, unloved and unlovable by other mortals.

Elizabeth, I totally agree. If adults could grasp the fact that God made them & loves them it would change their lives in radical ways.
