We recently took a quick trip to visit my husband’s grandmother who lives in South Georgia (and is the reigning chief chef in the family) and she made Grandma’s Famous Homemade Waffles for breakfast. That got me thinking about how these days most of us probably don’t make homemade anything for breakfast. We grab some frozen boxed items, microwave them and feed everyone on the way out the door. I know I am guilty of that and sometimes I don’t feel too good about it, especially when 1-2 hours after breakfast the kids are complaining about how hungry they are and I know it is because they ate …
Is it still snowing outside in our hometown of Dacula? Are you stuck in the house? Kids home from school? If so, what better to do than have a cookie baking afternoon with the family. If you didn’t get snowed in how about baking anyway and surprise the kids when they get home from school. Just warm up your chicken, heat your spaghetti sauce and voila, you are ready. For a really quick …
If you knew my husband, he would surely tell you a recent "Momma Said" story. A "Momma Said" story is about something my mother tells me (usually something she doesn't intend for me to repeat) and then I repeat it over and over saying, "Well, Momma said ..." These stories typically lead to lots of squirming on my part, but here is one I don't think she would mind me repeating: Momma said that if you eat the right dishes on New Year's Day you will prosper financially in the New Year. Now I don't know about everyone else, but, with the economy in its current state and after my most recent …
Christmas will be here before you know it - five days and counting now. Christmas trees are up, stockings are hung, Christmas cards are in the mail and before long we will all be making our lists of what to cook for our big Christmas dinners. If your family is anything like mine, you probably have all the tried and true recipes that help make your Christmas dinner a familiar and warm time for loved ones to gather and enjoy the holiday together. But what about Christmas morning? You know the time I am talking about - before the big dinner at Grandma's house. Everyone wakes up excited to see…
