Phillips performed at the Auburn Road restaurant on Dec. 22. According to Phillips' website, he begins each show in an Elvis jumpsuit and then adds his own "twist" to the show with a "striptease" style routine. Face painting, inflatables, italian ice and Georgia Force cheerleaders were just a few of the things you could find at the Dacula Stars and Strikes 2011 Family Fun Day on Saturday. Though it was a day of free fun, Stars and Strikes encouraged all participants to bring a canned good to donate. Here's a look at the event through photographs.
Dale Arrowood of Winged Ambassadors paid a visit to the Wild Bird Center of Buford this past weekend. Arrowood brought nine of his 25 wild birds to give the public a chance to see the winged wildlife up close. Visitors had the chance to see owls, falcons and even a black vulture. The men of Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church (HMUMC) in Dacula joined together this weekend to cook and sell 800 pounds of pork and more than 10 gallons of Brunswick stew. The sixth annual Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church Men's BBQ was a project of the church’s North Georgia Conference of United Methodist Men chapter. Proceeds from the event will be used to support various community and mission projects. Brunswick stew and BBQ dinners of pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans and bread were available. This past Saturday, the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center (GPAC) hosted its "Spring Phling" tent festival. The event featured free art lessons, musical entertainment and beautiful arts and crafts from area vendors. GPAC offers art lessons year round and this summer will hold several art camps for teens and children. The GPAC cottage is located at 1396 Third Avenue in Auburn.
Last Wednesday, patrons at Friends Sports Bar and Grill enjoyed a performance by local country music performer David Leon. Leon, a Dacula High School senior, took the stage with his songwriting partner Susan Shewbridge. The live music performance was just one of several Friends has planned over the next few weeks including an April 12 performance by Dr. Bombay in celebration of the restaurant’s one-year anniversary. AC/DC tribute band Back-in-Black played to a packed house Saturday night at Dos Copas. Dos Copas manager Matt Pollard said more great entertainment is planned over the next few weeks including the restaurant’s third annual Baja Beach Party on April 9.
