Cookies 4 A Cause

Cameron Cortman, Claire Harman, Merritt Lyman, Abby Brown, and Abbie Stackis (not pictured), 8th graders at Hebron Christian Academy

Accomplishment:  Created “Cookies 4 A Cause” to raise money during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  The group held a bake sale every Thursday and Friday during their lunchtime throughout the month of September.

Key to success: Cameron and Merritt, who are both cancer survivors, and Claire came up with the idea of Cookies 4 A Cause in 2011 when they were in 6th grade.  In the past, the group has donated the bake sale proceeds to Lighthouse Family Retreat and to the family of Reece McPhail, a 5th grader at HCA, who was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago.  This year, they have raised $300 to donate to the Aflac Cancer Center & Blood Disorders Service of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
