New Coaching Director Has Passion for the Game

Drew Prentice has a passion for soccer and is excited to join the Dacula Soccer Club as they continue to grow and impact the lives of the youth in our community.

The Dacula Soccer Club recently announced that Drew Prentice will be the club’s new Director of Coaching. Prentice has a passion for the game and is excited to be joining our successful community soccer club.

“The potential at the Dacula Soccer Club and the community that surrounds it is very exciting,” Prentice said. “It has been growing and continues to grow numbers wise and the quality and growth of the players that they are producing has been getting better and better. It is really exciting for me to be able to step into a leadership role at a club like Dacula that is already on the upswing. I hope to add my characteristics and keep things going in a good direction.”

As the full time director of coaching, Prentice will be managing a lot of different areas for the Dacula Soccer Club.

“I will manage just about every soccer issue that the club needs whether that is staffing for the select academy programs or working with the rec director, Kevin Scheiwe,” Prentice said. “I will also work on promoting our soccer club in the community and beyond, and trying to develop the club to help it find and reach its potential.”

Prentice brings a rich background with extensive experience in playing and coaching soccer. He has been playing soccer since was four years old. He started out as a rec player, tried out for his first select team at age 11, and continued to played club soccer in high school. At the college level, he received scholarships to Young Harris College for his first two years, and then transferred to North Georgia College for two years. Currently Prentice is a high school math teacher and the head varsity boys' soccer coach at Collins Hill High School.  He also currently serves as the Boys Academy Director for another local club. He has coached at the Dacula Soccer Club in the past, and also coached in the OTP program for Georgia Soccer. Prentice has been juggling a teaching career and continuing his passion for soccer by coaching for the past few years. With his new position at DSC, he is looking forward to being able to focus solely on soccer.

“After my playing career, I still wanted to be involved with the game and give back to soccer what it has done for me,” Prentice explained. “The game of soccer has given me so much and I want to provide those same opportunities for as many people as I can. This position will give me the opportunity to focus solely on soccer. Personally this is an exciting step in the right direction for me.”

Prentice has many ambitions and goals for the club long-term. However for the first year, he wants to focus on getting to know the club, and all of the people involved in playing and running the Dacula Soccer Club.

“For the first year I just want to get to know as many people as I can, and kind of get my feet wet to see what the situation really is at the grass roots,” Prentice explained. “I want to help the club in general to reach its maximum potential. I really want to get in and work with the younger kids and try to impact as many of those young players as I can. With the academy and select programs I also hope to improve both of those programs to the point where they are competing at more of a state and regional level, and those will be long term goals. I hope to just tweak the atmosphere and change the cultural a little bit so that it is competitive and still producing good members of the community. I think the club is already doing a good job with that, so I just hope to extend that a little as an immediate goal.”

Prentice will start his new position at the club on June 1. He believes that the Dacula Soccer Club has a great impact on our community, and he is looking forward to being a part of making a difference in the lives of the children in our community.

“The Dacula Soccer Club is a great place for the younger generations to learn valuable lessons like hard work, team work, ethics, how to deal with adversity, how to win, how to loose and how to learn from and work with people they might along with 100 percent of the time,” Prentice said. “I think the life lessons that the club and all sports provide for the youth in the community is very important. I am very excited and can’t wait to get out there and start working with everyone.”
