“The Living Last Supper” at St. Mary & St. Martha of Bethany Episcopal Church

On Saturday, March 31, St. Mary & St. Martha of Bethany Episcopal Church will present “The Living Last Supper” at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will be inside the new campus at 4346 Ridge Road near Friendship Road in Buford.

The “Living Last Supper” presentation is based on both the original Gospel event and the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci with the groundwork script written in 1954 by Ernest K. Emurian, a Methodist pastor from Arlington, Va. The men of St. Mary & St. Martha of Bethany bring both the painting and the script to life in this unique and dramatic format.

“The Living Last Supper” director Ivan Burba said this marks the second year the church has presented the play, but this year the format has been expanded and separated into two acts. The men in the play are seated in the same order as the portrayal of Jesus and his Apostles in the famous da Vinci painting and are posed similarly. The actors remain in their poses for the duration of the performance, stepping out to present individual segments in which they question who is it that will betray Jesus, and ending with, “Lord, is it I?”
