Girl Scout Cookie Sales Begin Friday

Cookies will be sold at several Dacula locations.

Tuesday will be a big day for Georgia's Girl Scouts. The international organization will be honored by Gov. Nathan Deal and the Georgia Legislature as it kicks off the countdown to its 100th anniversary in 2012.

For more than 41,000 girls in 34 Greater Atlanta counties, however, the day marks the start of the annual cookie sale. Girl Scouts will be selling cookies at hundreds of locations, including shopping centers and offices beginning this Friday, Feb. 18.

As part of the annual fundraiser, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta have created a site to help cookie buyers find the nearest booth. Booth sites in Dacula include Little Caesar's, Riteaid, Walgreens, Kroger and Blockbuster locations. Visit cookielocator.littlebrownie.com/council_sales/find for dates, locations and times.

Deal will honor the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia (Savannah) as part of a special day saluting the organization's history and role in "building young girls and women of courage, confidence and character." Activities at the Capitol include:

  • An opportunity for Girl Scouts to meet with lobbyists and legislators and visit the Senate and House sessions to learn about the political process.
  • Elly Dobbs, House Representative for District 53 and a hostess to Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, will read a resolution honoring Girl Scouts.
  • Deal will honor the Girl Scouts in a special ceremony on the Capitol steps. First Lady Sandra Deal will host a special reception for the scouts.
