Local Scouts to Host Chick-fil-a Night on July 26 in Support of Food Pantry

Bring a canned good and enjoy a great dinner for a great cause!

On Thursday, July 26, from 5-8 p.m., bring a canned good to the Chick-fil-A at Stonebridge Village in Flowery Branch, and 10 percent of your dinner purchase will support our local scouts in Pack 597, Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church (HMUMC), and the HMUMC Food Pantry.

“We want to help out with the church because they have been our charter organization for over 10 years now,” Pack 597 committee chair Joy Thompson-Holan said. “We wanted to try to give back to them to show our appreciation. We are trying to bring the church and the pack closer together, and we hope to make this an annual fundraiser.”

This fundraiser will ultimately give back to our community two-fold. The first being the important lesson it will teach our young community leaders in Pack 597.

“We want the kids to be involved in this fundraiser to give them a sense of ownership for the pack, and feel like that are doing their part to give back to the community,” Thompson-Holan said. “Community service is a big part of scouting in general. With this fundraiser, they can actually see what they are doing. By colleting cans and taking it to the Pantry, they will see their cans filling up the shelves and making a difference.”

The second, very important, way this fundraiser will give back to our community is by filling the shelves of the HMUMC Food Pantry. In the summertime, giving is low and a lot of people in our area depend on this organization to help support their family in times of need.

“We want to try to get as many people out that as we can, bringing canned food and supporting the fundraiser so we can make a difference,” Thompson-Holan said.
