The Great Escape: 15 Minutes for You

Get somewhere 15 minutes early and take an escape!

Did you escape last week and do some geocaching with the family?  If so, I hope you enjoyed yourself.  This week the “Great Escape” is just for you, however you won’t need babysitters and you don’t even have to rearrange or plan anything special to escape this time, in fact no-one will even know you took an escape except for you.  Do you feel like you never get just 10 or 15 minutes to yourself?  If you had 15 minutes alone and you could do anything you wanted what would you do?  No, I don’t mean what could you get done that you need to do, I mean what would you like to do?  Here is how this came to me …

My youngest son started preschool this year and I had just left the store where I saw a new Paula Dean Magazine that I thought looked interesting so in an unprecedented move, I bought it!  I headed on over to pick up my preschooler and arrived about 15 minutes early.  I parked in the church parking lot and thought I could make a few phone calls or better yet make a list of what I needed to get done in the next few days, but instead, I picked up my magazine and thoroughly enjoyed the next 10 minutes immersed in recipes and solitude.  Now I know some of you are saying “If I had 15 minutes to myself, I wouldn’t want to read a magazine” and that is okay.  The secret to this escape is its 15 minutes to yourself, in your car where you don’t see a messy house that you should be cleaning, bills you should be paying, and you aren’t worried about being late to wherever you are going.

So pick something you would enjoy, a magazine, a book, some of your favorite tunes on your iPod, or maybe just roll the windows down lean your head back and enjoy the quiet.  This week’s “Great Escape” is simple - get somewhere 15 minutes early and take that time for yourself!
