The Great Outdoors: Meteors, Bikes, Hikes and More

Want to get out and enjoy the great outdoors? Here are some activities in and around Dacula you may want to check out.



  • Are you a star gazer?  If so this event is right up your alley. Head out to just off of Fence Road in Dacula and enjoy the Eta Aquarids meteor shower.  You need to arrive at the park on Saturday, May 7 at 3:30 a.m. to enjoy the show. Continental breakfast will be served. Call 770-614-2060 to pre-register. The cost to participate in this event is $5.


  • Dirty Spokes is sponsoring a nine and six hour endurance mountain bike race at Fort Yargo State Park this Saturday. You can register to participate individually or as a team online here or visit and watch the race first hand. Scarlett Stitch will be present at the event to provide free “live music.”
  • Gwinnett Humane Society’s PAWFest Pack Hike

    Join the Gwinnett Humane Society in this 3-mile hike around the lake at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville or for a shorter hike join the puppy pack 1-mile hike. Bring your pack with you to enjoy the day (that can be a pack of dogs, friends, kids, or anyone).  Atlanta Dog Whisperer and dog behavior expert Angie Woods will lead the PAWfest Pack Hike. After the hikes you can stay and enjoy events at the 18th PAWfest festival. Pre-registration for the hike is available online here or you can register on the day of the event from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. for $25.   
  • Wag 'n Walk Pet Festival

    If you are a pet owner or pet lover, you are invited to participate in this fun 1-mile walk around the lake at Meridian Park in Loganville. Stop in and speak with vendors, participate in fun and games, and enjoy music and food.  Please call 770-207-1896 for more information. This is a free event.
  • Night Ride at Tribble Mill Park

    Love to ride bikes? Don’t miss this mountain bike ride through Tribble Mill Park on Tuesday evening, May 10. The night ride will begin at 6 p.m. and is appropriate for beginners and experienced riders. Please note all riders are required to have head and tail lights. Everyone ages 15 and up are invited to participate.  Call 770-418-2331 to register.
