The Great Outdoors: Running, Biking and Motorcycle Riding

Get out and get active in or near our hometown of Dacula.

Head out to Meridian Park in Loganville on Saturday, May 21, and participate in the Salute to the Armed Forces Fun Run/Walk. This is a 1.2 free fun run/walk around the lake. The fun run starts at 8:30 a.m. Plan on staying for a ceremony to honor our American heroes after the event. This event is free and no registration is required.

New riders from all levels are welcome to join the Gwinnett Touring Club’s Thursday evening ride that starts at 6:45 p.m. This 21.3 mile bike ride leaves from on Thursday, May 19 and will take a low traffic route. Riders should expect rolling terrain with hills and a moderate to strenuous rating. Maps are available on the GTC website. The route will not be marked. The Carolyn Kelly Memorial 5K to benefit the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for a Cure hosted by Grayson High School cheerleading is scheduled for Saturday, May 21. The run will start at 8 a.m. at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville. The race will start and finish at the Holly Pavilion near the playground. The cost to participate is $25 and all proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Did you know you can take a trail ride on horseback at Lake Lanier Islands? Trail rides are offered along the scenic trails on the shores of Lake Lanier. These are 45 minute rides that leave every hour on the hour. Wee Folk pony rides are offered for children 2 and up and weighing under 80 pounds. These rides last approximately 30 minutes and require your child to be accompanied by an adult.

Motorcycle enthusiasts can participate in this bike ride to honor the military on National Armed Forces Day. This event is hosted by the AmVets Association Post 12 and the City of Auburn. The event  is scheduled for May 21 and proceeds from the ride will support Wounded Warrior organizations as well as other veteran and community organizations.
