The Great Outdoors: Running, Fishing and Golf

Want to get out and enjoy the great outdoors? Here are some activities in and around Dacula you may want to check out.

Grab your running shoes and head out to for the 7th Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk. This event will benefit CURE Childhood Cancer and the HMUMC Pantry. The race starts at the church and loops around . Registration is $20 to walk or run but if you cannot participate you can still join in as a spirit runner and donate $15 to the cause. Donations to the food pantry will be accepted on race day as well. Visit the HMUMC website here to register.

This Saturday, May 14, grab the family and head out to the free kids fishing derby at the Centerville Community Center in Snellville. This event will take place from 10 a.m. until noon. Don’t miss the fun as everyone tries to catch the 30-pound catfish named “Big Herman.” Children under the age of 16 will not need a license, just bring your poles. Bait and prizes will be provided. Registration is not required to participate.

Are you a golfer? If so don't miss this opportunity to play at the new Legacy on Lanier golf course. The 9th Annual Lake Lanier Association Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, May 16 and the proceeds will support the Association's goal of protecting the lake through programs of education, action and advocacy.  The entry fee for this tournament includes your entrance fee to Lake Lanier Islands, a continental breakfast, cart rental, green fees, a BBQ reception, awards, goody bags, and entrance into a raffle for great prizes.  Check out the website for more information and registration pricing.

Head out to Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville and race the Chauncey Davis 2K Family Fun Run. Atlanta Falcon Chauncey Davis hosts this race which starts at 10 a.m. and begins a fun day of activities at the park. Following the race, stay and enjoy Saturday in the Park with kids’ inflatables, crafts, games, food and more fun for the whole family. Saturday evening find a good seat for a free family movie.

The Gwinnett Braves are partnering with the American Cancer Society to host a family 5K and one-mile fun run on Saturday, May 14 at Coolray Field. The cost to participate is $30 per runner with a $20 discount per runner for running clubs.  A family can participate with a single registration fee of $30. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., the 5K starts at 8 a.m. and the fun run will begin at 8:10 a.m.
