This Homemade Holiday Gift Is Simple and Inexpensive

Wendy Jones shares her recipe for spicy glazed pecans.

Do you love to make homemade gifts for the holidays, but just do not have time? With all of the festive activities, shopping and parties to attend, no one has hours to spend in the kitchen. Wendy Jones has the perfect solution. Her recipe for spicy pecans is a quick homemade holiday gift.

“The pecans are easy to make and can be used as a gift or put in a salad with blue cheese, pears and a vinaigrette salad dressing for a holiday dinner,” Jones shared.

This recipe will be perfect for all of those upcoming parties.

“They are also great to set out on the coffee table for people to snack on if you are having a party,” Jones said.

You can alter the recipe to your own liking by making them as sweet or spicy as you would like.

“Add more or less cayenne pepper depending upon how hot you would like the pecans to be,” Jones suggests.

This homemade gift can easily be made up to one week ahead of time. Jones had a great idea for packaging her sweet and spicy treat.

“Place in jar, add wrapping paper to the top and tie with ribbon,” Jones said.

Spicy Glazed Pecans 

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sugar

3 tablespoons water

1 scant teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 cups pecan halves 

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 350.

2. Butter heavy large baking sheet.

3. Combine first four ingredients in heavy small saucepan.

4.  Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.

5. Boil two minutes.

6. Add pecans and stir until pecans are coated with mixture, about one minute.

7. Transfer to prepared baking sheet, spreading evenly.

8. Bake until just beginning to brown, about 13 minutes.

9. Transfer to cookie sheet lined with waxed paper and separate with fork.

10. Store in airtight container.
