Bluegrass Event Set for Saturday

Suwanee Music Barn hosting all day event.

Now that Suwanee's iconic bluegrass music site is kickin' and pickin' again, it's time to hold the annual daylong event.

The Everett Music Barn on Stonecypher Road, which revived its weekly Saturday night gigs in April, will hold an all-day Barn Benefit on Saturday, June 4. Events begin at 1 p.m.

Tommy Everett, curator, sound man and nephew of Everett Brothers Band founders Roger and Randall Everett, said recently that donations during the event will be used for ongoing barn maintenance.

People are welcome to bring a covered dish meal and, of course, musical instruments for jamming at the barn and in the main house. Bands will be playing in the barn every 45 minutes, Everett said.

The Everett property came under new ownership in March; Roger Everett's death in October prompted his brother George to put the property for sale, and a three-member group of Gwinnett residents stepped in with an eye to preserving the musical tradition.

The originated in the 1960s, growing out of  an Everett family tragedy. The original Everett Brothers Band has been inducted into the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame.
