'Fire & Ice': Georgia Piedmont Arts Center Presents First Gallery Show of 2012

Dacula resident and award-winning watercolorist Henry M. Wood Jr. judged the first of three winter gallery shows for the local nonprofit arts organization.

The has deemed its first gallery show of the new year a success.

"There was great diversity of work and all skill levels were represented," Kathleen Gill, president of the arts center, said in a news release on "Fire & Ice", the first of three scheduled winter gallery shows for the local nonprofit arts organization.

Guest judge for the show was award-winning watercolorist and Dacula resident Henry M. Wood Jr.

Best of show honors went to Patricia Schumacher of Lawrenceville for her fiber art piece titled “Sunflower I”. 

Awards for two-dimensional entries were presented to Bobbie Austin of Social Circle, who took first place for an acrylic piece titled "Fire", and Jacqueline Stadler of Dacula, who received second place for her mixed media piece "Koi-Sun".

First place for three dimensional artwork was presented to Schumacher for a fiber arts piece titled "Sunflower IV". A second place ribbon was given to Jo Cooper of Hoschton for her piece titled "Rubies in the Snow".

Awards for honorable mention were presented to Renee Hewitt of Winder, Myrna Trapp of Monroe, Mia Rodriguez of Braselton and Karey Russell of Winder. 

The Mayor’s Choice Award, judges by Auburn Mayor Linda Blechinger, was presented to Jacqueline Stadler of Dacula for a piece titled "Blue Flight".
