Were You Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama's Speech?

What did you think of the Democratic National Conventions first day of speeches?

The first day of speeches at this year's DNC included some of the Democratic Party's most promising rising stars including Newark Mayor Cory Booker and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. Lily Ledbetter's speech on equal pay and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick's portrait of his predecessor Mitt Romney's tenure were also crowd favorites.

However, the undisputed star of the show was First Lady Michelle Obama, whose moving account of her life with our President and her hopes for our Nation has been widely hailed as one of the finest Convention speeches ever delivered.

So now that the Democrats have had a chance to give their initial answer to last week's Republican National Convention, what did you think? What is the biggest contrast you see between the two groups? Did Democratic speakers make a good case for President Obama's accomplishments? Are you looking forward to his speech on Thursday?

Whatever Greg....what was the kool aid flavor of the day yesterday?
Ed Varn September 06, 2012 at 01:23 AM
Floyd accusing others of drinking the Kool-Aid? Oh, the irony is just dripping here!
Chris September 06, 2012 at 01:31 AM
Michelle? Is she still proud of her country for the first time? Who knew Jimmy Carter was a psychic? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eEOgOmNmH-E#!
Kristi Reed (Editor) September 06, 2012 at 01:44 AM
I think Greg is right about this: "The GOP seems to really be trying to force themselves to like Romney, whereas at the DNC last night all in attendance LOVE Obama." It is going to be interesting to watch the candidates debate and see which one does a better job connecting with mainstream America. To Ed and Floyd - You two crack me up. Thank you for that. Chris - That video was honestly a little scary and a nice piece of work by some GOP strategist. I think the last thing the current administration wants is to be connected with the Carter administration.
Ed Varn September 06, 2012 at 01:58 AM
I think you're right, Kristi. The GOP is trying to appeal to the independents that will make or break this election, and in so doing, they seem to love everyone in their party EXCEPT Mittens. The Demogogues, on the other hand, seem to be appealing only to their base, which may be a losing proposition as well. Have there ever been two WORSE candidates for President at the same time? Obummer and Obummer Lite? Is this truly what we've come down to?
L. Kelley September 06, 2012 at 02:14 AM
Inspired? Yes by her public speaking abilities. Inspired... perhaps by the talents that wrote the speech. Believing and convinced? Not so much.
GregRodgers September 06, 2012 at 02:41 AM
Hey Floyd....it was not the flavor you were drinking the night Mike lost!....Thank God!..... Good luck...bud...you'll need it....LOL!

Inspired? Not hardly. If inspired, it would have been by hearing michelle admit waste from all the many vacations that she, all her friends, family and obama enjoy and how great it is to fly separate planes while traveling the world at taxpayer expense. If inspired, it would have been the admission that the obamas don’t Actually relate to common Americans. The Americans who continue unemployment and continue to lose their homes, their credit and their dignity due to obama’s policies. If inspired, it would have been if michelle had skipped the load about the struggles obama has always had in life and apparently ??? continues to have while reading letters from suffering Americans keep him up at night. If inspired, it would have been hearing what obama is doing to aid our soldiers who are having home foreclosures while they fight for our freedom in Afghanistan. If inspired, it would have been hearing that obama knows he’s a failure and he's dropping out of the race so America can start to rebuild after all of his neglect. Inspired? Not hardly.

The First Lady is a class act a majority of the time. She can be persuasive in both her passion and presentation. Some of what she believes is common, but how she envisions us getting there, WELL... But alas, the speech just shows that Michele wants us all to tenderly experience their early years, each in our very own personal current REALITY… As to who knew Jimmy Carter was a psychic... Who knew Jimmy’s results would be eclipsed? Energy Policy… Ck Unemployment… Ck Iran… Ck Inflation… Open at present (If you believe government reports) Are we better off than 4 years ago? Listen to this man and decide yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4o-TeMHys0 After all, we can’t all live in a Club FED "Day Camp" during our sunset years…
So Much to Say September 06, 2012 at 04:04 AM
http://obamaprincetonthesis.wordpress.com/ Read Michelle Obama's thesis. It explains she distaste for the white race. This women is the worst type of bigot out there.
So Much to Say September 06, 2012 at 04:08 AM
PS...Cory Booker a rising star....Nowhere near. Newark NJ has one of the highest crime rates in the US. Crime has NOT gone down since Cory took office. Employment has also gone down, of course corruption has gone through the roof. Most of the crime is gun and drug related. Even worst it's black on black crime.

One could observe that's what "coalitions" usually look like as they work together...
Carolyn Woodward September 06, 2012 at 01:38 PM
....and her multiple references to her poor upbringing and his?! What a crock! and which of his Grandmothers was she talking about? The one in Africa or his white granny who help raise him? Really, a bunch of BS! Yes they wrote a great speech for her and yes, the acting lessons from the hollywierdos certainly helped. More smoke and mirrors, more of the same nothingness! She actually "looked" happy and warm and kind!" Did she use Oprah's makeup renaissance artists???? They continue with NO plan, but hey unless u hate your children, vote for the demagog?! If you hate to throw up, vote for the demagog, If you love puppies and kittens, yup, the demagog is for you! WAKE UP, AMERICA! Before it is too late!
bobby black September 06, 2012 at 01:53 PM
I would have needed a barf bag if I had listened to much of it. Why is America such a good place now when she hated it so bad before BO got to be President. She was always in lockstep with the Rev. Wright.
Brian Crawford September 06, 2012 at 03:01 PM
I was moved And inspired. Michelle embodies the best in us. Her work with Dr. Biden to assist military families has been an important part of reminding us that we're still at war and owe a daily debt to those fighting it and the families they left behind. The war in Afghanistan didn't get a single mention in Tampa last week even though US soldiers are laying down their lives every day for our freedom. Michelle's example as a loving mother and wife is exemplary. Anyone who thinks that she and Barack came from anything other than very humble beginnings is in deep denial, no matter what the drunken ghost of Breitbart has to say. By the way, Clinton's speech last night was also masterful. The contrast between the two parties is now starker than ever. Hope and Change > Snark and Rage. I pray for those whose heart is so filled with hate and anger that they can't see the truth.
Steve R. September 06, 2012 at 03:18 PM
Bravo Brian. So touching your words and prayers for those with hatred. Shall we now go back and read your entries under the Paul Ryan article. You're full of it!
Carolyn Woodward September 06, 2012 at 03:27 PM
such a cutie pie catch phrase! Snark n Rage?! How bout a PLAN? We have heard all the rhetoric BS! Good GOD, man! Get educated by doing some reading outside of the demagogy! Just glad THIS red state will not reelect the Islamist Socialist who is HELL bent on ruining MY fine COUNTRY! Watch 2016! Get clued in all ye brainwashed lemmings!
Jimmy Orr September 06, 2012 at 04:52 PM
I was inspired. Michelle said to vote for a man you can trust. That is exactly what I am going to do. I am going to vote for Mitt Romney. Kristi, speaking of Carter, remember two things. #1. Richard Nixon proved anyone could be President. #2. Jimmy Carter proved we didn't need one.
Michael k September 06, 2012 at 05:21 PM
(Sarcasm alert) It is refreshing to read comments from thoughtful and considerate adults pertaining to the current election cycle. It warms the coquilles in my heart to know such fine, reasonable people are out there. (/sarcasm) As I posted under another topic I am convinced that both presidential candidates and American political candidates as a whole are patriots who love their country. There is disagreement in the best approach to lead the country, but I am not familiar with any mainstream American politician who advocates coup d'etat. I also believe (unfortunately) that most American politicians are liars. I don't believe there is enough consequence when a politician lies (fudges, takes out of context, smears, besmirches) and in fact there are negative consequences to choosing to NOT lie. My personal politcal leanings are to the left but I don't believe the country fill be endangered if Mitt Romney is elected. I believe Bill Clinton was a better President than either President Bush but I recognize that neither President Bush ruined our country and I realize that somewhere from 45% - 55% of the country would disagree with me about either Clinton vs. Bush. I am personally not interested in hearing from individuals who advocate that President Obama or his wife hate America, or are socialist Muslims (by the way I know many Muslims who love our country and they are wonderful people), or a bigot.

So now the democratic party supports lawlessness thanks to the rousing applause for the illegal immigrant on stage. I'm appalled. You think I can go out and break a federal law and get cheered for it Brian? Idiocy at it's finest.
Larry Reid September 07, 2012 at 01:43 AM
Obama has been very clear that he will make his own laws. The constitution be damned.
Jimmy September 07, 2012 at 05:39 AM
And what about that 'rising democrat star' Julian Castro, mayor of San Antonio? Bastard son of two community organizers, one of whom helped start La Raza (a racist organization sometimes associated with the reconquista movement)...he actually stood on the stage and told the world that his "success" in life wasnt due to his intelligence or hard work, but because of affirmative action. Is that what the American Dream has become? A handout from the government if you meet certain demographic criteria?
Racer X September 08, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Ed- Where's John Wayne when you need him?
Racer X September 08, 2012 at 11:01 PM
Jimmy- You are awesome.
Tammy Osier September 08, 2012 at 11:08 PM
Anyone want to comment on the darling of the convention Sandra Fluke? lololol Kids don't have shoes, houses are being forclosed on everywhere, and she's not getting enough because the gub'nent isn't paying for her birth control. Let's se....democrats endorse casual sex, and republicans give millions to aids sufferers in Africa. Quite a contrast, isn't it?
Larry Reid September 08, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Yea. She's a real class act. I'm surprised they didn't invite Anthony Weiner. The dems have no problems with people like Fluke, Weiner, Clinton. Scumbags.
Racer X September 08, 2012 at 11:20 PM
Obama- First President in history to have an Uncle who is an illegal immigrant fugitive from justice. Onyango Obama, Google him. He has the same drunk driving habits that Obama's father had, yet he is still in the US and has gotten his Massachusetts license back, which he obtained with a fraudulent social security number. Apparently Obama Jr. is all good with that and has pulled strings to keep his illegal posterior right here in the US. What happens when this drunken illegal kills somebody with his car? How are the Dems gonna spin that? Lawlessness, apparently, is OK, as long as you are not a US citizen. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2012/07/ice-stonewalls-on-status-of-uncle-onyango-obama/
Tammy Osier September 08, 2012 at 11:42 PM
Larry - lolol You never hear about them from the locals here; only the baddies with an R beside their name.
Larry Reid September 08, 2012 at 11:49 PM
I wouldn't count on an explanation from Obama. I'm sure he feels it's a benefit of being the ruler.
Larry Reid September 08, 2012 at 11:51 PM
Sandra Fluke has no shame. What a loser to go before congress to tell the world that it isn’t “fair” unless hard working, responsible Americans finance her promiscuity as a single loose tramp. Of course democrats turned their backs on Weiner at the time. No one knew the extent of his Freaky-Deaky-Twitter-Litter. That pompous dimwit and Bill Clinton feel they are above the standards of morality that most Americans pride themselves of. No scruples those scumbags. I will be shocked if Weiner doesn’t rejoin the democrats someday, collecting a government paycheck again.
