Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day Draws Crowds

Large crowds reported at several local Chick-fil-As.

After Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy voiced his support for the Biblical view of marriage, critics were quick to pounce on the company.

In response to the controversy, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee declared Aug. 1 "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day."

"Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1," Huckabee wrote on the Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day Facebook page.

The Mike Huckabee Facebook page is currently plastered with photos of Chick-fil-A crowds across the country.

The Chick-fil-A frenzy was also a hot topic on Twitter and Google. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, "Chick-fil-A" was a trending topic on Twitter and the most-searched-for term on Google.

Locally, police and fire personnel were called to the Chick-fil-A in .

"Two quick observations so far from today: 1)We are highly, as in "super cali fragilistic expialidocious" proud of our team members today...they have worked so hard & so efficiently and offered tons of genuine 'my pleasure' comments. 2) We have been **incredibly** humbled by your patronage," a restaurant representative posted on the Winder location's Facebook page.

In Dacula, long lines were reported at the and the .

In Lilburn, . Lines extended to the back of the restaurant into the seating area. Nearby in Snellville, store patrons parked at a nearby church when the restaurant's parking lot became full.

While supporters of Chick-fil-A may have made a very visible statement today, gay rights advocates are hoping to make a statement of their own later this week on National Same Sex Kiss Day.

"National Same Sex Kiss Day is this Friday, August 3rd at a Chick-fil-A near you!," according to a post on the National Same Sex Kiss Day Facebook page. "Head to your local Chick-fil-A and share a kiss with your sweetie. Let's show Chick-fil-A that EVERYONE deserves to be able to fall in love, start a family, and take their children to eat fried chicken after a soccer match. ;)"

Thank you Lynn, I am proud of all those that took a stand. I am amazed that millions stood in 100 degrees, blazing sun, stoic in their commitment, respectfully waiting their turn to say, I STAND IN SUPPORT OF MARRIAGE. The gay community is hurting their cause with "LOOK AT ME" behavior. I am a white person. The KKK is a shameful group. Yet, they chooses to speak for the white class. They do not! Now here comes "KISSING CLOWNS" harming the gays. I go to restaurants to eat, not to engage in kissing my mate to garner attention. While many have eased into the LIVE AND LET LIVE mentality, they still believe that marriage is ordained by God between a man & a woman. If you don't believe in the standards of a group, WHY yearn for that group's titles? As gay couples make up a pair of men in a union or a pair of women in a union, I put forth a union called a PAIRage instead of a MARIage. The word GAY no longer means HAPPY. We do not want the word MARRIAGE to come to the same demise. Christians do not want to judge others. We are of the belief system of, "JUDGE NOT, LESS YE BE JUDGED" & "THE MEASURE OF WHICH YOU JUDGE OTHERS WILL BE THE MEASURE THAT YOU WILL BE JUDGED." I wouldn't take a title that doesn't belong to me such as president because I do not fall into the requirements of that title so, I do not want the title of marriage to be taken or given to anyone that does not meet the requirements of a marriage as determined by the originator of the institution or word.

Doesn't surprise me a bit, hate always has been a powerful motivator. Somewhere the Devil must be having a good chuckle over all of this.

BC, Why must you always see everything as hateful instead of the truth? How can you be so filled with judgement and hate for half of your fellow man? You are right about one thing, the DEVIL is laughing about and lurking about here on Earth. Better witch out! LOL

Freedom of speech is what it's all about. When we are intimidated to express our views, we all lose out.

I love it that CM says we'd better "witch out!" And I'm chuckling over all the stuff about being a tax-paying God-loving, family-oriented, hard-working heterosexual listed in great detail just before saying "we don't shove our lifestyle in the faces of others" (um, what was that rant again?) and gays shouldn't shove it in "ours" -- and then blame the gays when the news media reports what they're doing! Are you mad that news reported on Chick-Fil-A support day too? Who is supporting an 'us-them' mentality here? We're all in this together. I'm glad everyone can say what they think. Here's what I think: gays are in the minority, and easy to pick on. Next, let's be snide to people with blond hair. Makes just as much sense.
