Cut a Rug at Jones Dance Ballroom Studios

Each week we feature a business from our hometown of Dacula. This week, learn more about Jones Dance Ballroom Studios.

Waylon Jones opened at 2740 Braselton Highway in Dacula a little over a year ago. Jones, who has 27 years of experience in different forms of dance, teaches six group classes a week as well as daily private lessons. He also . I sat down with Jones to talk about his business.

Patch: What is the best part about owning your dance studio?

Waylon: I get to do what I love doing. Really the only thing that I do is dance and teach. I love the aspect of teaching, helping people, taking them from a beginner dancer all the way to having a professional career. I'm loving that I can change somebody's life and make them fall in love with something like I did.

Patch: What is the most challenging aspect of your business?

Waylon: Juggling the time here with the time at home and trying to keep a good balance. You know where I’m not scheduling myself so much where I never see my two girls.

Patch: What is unique about Jones Dance Ballroom Studios?

Waylon: I have students who range from age three up into their 70s and I have students at all levels. I have people whose kids are just wanting to be on stage. Then I have students who want to compete in the Pro-Am circuit and I have students who just want to learn how to dance so they don’t feel silly on the dance floor. I have a very wide base of people including those who come in for wedding specials who want to learn how to do a first dance and then I have people who saw something on television and want to try it out.

Patch: What makes the Dacula community special?

Waylon: I met my wife in Tennessee and she brought me down here to meet her family. I came to Dacula and I thought it was a very cool town. It was small and very much like Knoxville where I’m from. You have a lot to do, but it is still small so you don’t have to deal with the craziness of the city but you're still close enough to it that you don’t have to spend an all day trip going there. After visiting, we decided to move here in 2003 and I’m loving it. I don’t see us ever leaving. I’m very closely involved with Mill Creek High School and I love the kids in this community. They’re a good bunch of kids and there’s a lot of them. There’s a very diverse group of what they offer at the schools as well whether it’s dance, arts, science or theater.

Jones Dance Ballroom Studios is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Group classes and private lessons are available. More information on schedules and fees is available at www.jonesdance.com.
