Dacula Farmer's Market an Important Part of Community Health

Rancho Alegre Farm hosts weekly Farmer's Market that showcases products from local farmers and vendors.

Everyone knows that organic foods are better for physical health.  Everyone knows that buying local goods is beneficial to our local economy’s health.  Every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. you can strengthen your body and your community by visiting the Dacula Farmer’s Market.

The Farmer’s Market is a unique venue for the vendors to come together to positively impact in the Dacula community by providing wholesome and healthy products that are locally grown or produced.  The Dacula Farmer’s Market takes place each Saturday amidst the beautiful scenery of Rancho Alegre Farm.  Rancho Alegre, located in the Harbins community at 2225 Givens Road, began operating in 2004 to serve and educate the community about agriculture.

Rancho Alegre began hosting the Dacula Farmer’s Market in October of 2009 when Pilar Quintero, owner of Rancho Alegre Farms, offered her indoor meeting space as a place for another regional farmer's market to continue operating during the winter months.  Since that time it has taken off, and despite some ups and downs, the Dacula Farmer's Market has become an important part of the community.

The Farmer’s Market is open to local vendors, and on any given Saturday you’ll find people selling anything from peanut brittle to gourmet dog biscuits to fresh yogurt.

Quintero hopes that the Farmer’s Market will grow into a much larger weekly event, but it is her vision to see the Farmer’s Market and Rancho Alegre contribute to agriculture-based tourism and education that really gets her excited, “One of the things we are looking forward to is reaching out to local PTA’s and seeing if they can start food co-ops at each PTA in each school.” Quintero is actively working to bring about a partnership where Gwinnett county schools work with local farms to help the next generation see the importance and value of farming, agriculture, and community.

The Farmer’s Market is an important step toward those goals and a valuable contribution to our community.  So, if you have been searching for ways to stay healthy by buying organic foods, or if you are interested in injecting some new life into our local economy you may want to take one of your Saturday mornings and make your way on over to Rancho Alegre and the Dacula Farmer’s Market.
