Dollar General Store Proposed for Harbins Road

The 9,100-square-foot store would be located near the intersection of Harbins and Jones Phillips Road.

A development company hopes to have a 1.7-acre tract of land in Dacula rezoned for the purpose of building a Dollar General store.

Applicant Sullivan Wickley Properties has requested the property at the corner of Harbins Road and Jones Phillips Road be rezoned from C-1 (neighborhood business district) to C-2 (general business district).

The 9,100-square-foot, four-sided brick store would front Harbins Road. The development would include 30 parking spaces.

In the zoning request letter, the applicant stated the Dollar General “would bring necessary consumer conveniences to the area, allowing local residents to stop by the Dollar General for everyday needs.”

According to the Dollar General website, the Tennessee-based retailer is the nation's largest small-box discount retailer.

“We make shopping for everyday needs simpler and hassle-free by offering a carefully edited assortment of the most popular brands at low everyday prices in small, convenient locations,” the website states.

The store, if built, would be the second in Dacula. The retailer currently operates a store at 1941 Auburn Road.

The case, RZC2012-00013, is currently scheduled to go before the Gwinnett County Planning Commission on Sept. 4.
