Dooley’s Southern Stone Pizza Kitchen Opening in Dacula

New pizza restaurant is owned by the same family that operated the Mellow Mushroom in The Shops at Hamilton Mill.

Do you miss Mellow Mushroom?

Chad Appling, whose family owned the Hamilton Mill Mellow Mushroom and now operates Dooley’s Southern Stone Pizza Kitchen in Winder, said the new Dooley’s location in Dacula will provide even better pizza than Mellow Mushroom.

“Our pizza is similar to Mellow Mushroom, but it is actually better in my opinion,” he said.

The Hamilton Mill Mellow Mushroom closed after the restaurant’s lease was not renewed. Appling said his family had no desire to leave the location.

“We were doing great business-wise,” he said.

Though having to leave Dacula was a disappointment, the Applings soon opened Dooley’s Southern Stone Pizza Kitchen in Winder and are looking forward to returning to the Dacula area by the first week of April.

Dooley’s will feature a bar and a special room dedicated to couples out for a date night. What will make the restaurant really special though, Appling explained, is the handmade pizza.

“We make our own dough, make our own sauce in house every day, we cook our meats fresh every day, we cut our own vegetables fresh every day. We’re not a little delivery chain … our pizza is completely different from that,” Appling said.

Once the pizzas are assembled, they are stone baked. The restaurant offers a variety of specialty pizzas including the Firebird, Hawaii Five-0, Stairway to Heaven and the Super Chicken.

The original Dooley’s is located at 137 East May Street in Winder. The Dacula location, Dooley’s second, will be located in The Veranda at Fort Daniel shopping center, 1862 Auburn Road in Dacula.

This should be great! The Dooley's in Winder is in a former Mellow Mushroom location there (that one was a great Mushroom too! I loved all the train memorabilia they had). I've not been to Dooley's so hope they will be a great addition to Dacula. It's good to see another business go into that Veranda location. It was part of the over build that has sat empty too long. Hopefully traffic will get into that place now and it can thrive! Welcome back to town to the Appling family!

Sorry to say that Dooley's Dacula is a huge disappointment. Took 15 minutes to get someone to take our drink order, they lost our pizza order, the salad had ice chips in it and was unedible, the appetizer was cold. Took 2 hours to finish our meal. Saw a lot of people walking out and some very disappointed faces, food taken back and mass confusion by wait staff as to their role. No management to speak of either. I've been to the Winder location and loved it...but this one I will NOT go back to.

Icampbell...You need to give the Dacula location another try. They must have had an off day. I eat there quite often and the service and food has always been great. I love the great selection that the menu offers. Best Pizza in town!

Gourmet and fresh, Dooley's has a pizza worth waiting for. My favs are Chicken Alfredo Pizza and the Nachos (like nothing you will find since Macaroni Grill stopped making them). These are even better! Don't miss all of the hand painted murals across the walls. A true tribute to the people who made the 60-70s. Don't miss Dick Clark!!!
