The owners of a local barbecue restaurant have decided to close their doors within the next several weeks.

Shane's Rib Shack, located at 3465 Braselton Highway in Dacula, is expected to close in late February or early March according to a manager who asked not to be identified.

Though Shane's will be closing, the manager explained the owners plan to open a new restaurant in the same location.

"We're hoping to do something better," the manager said.

Shane's is not the only Hamilton Mill-area restaurant with plans to reopen as a different eatery. Bolgheri Tuscan Pizza recently closed and the owners plan to reopen in the same space within the next few months, but have not yet decided what type restaurant they will operate.

The news of Shane's closing comes just days after signs went up in the same shopping center announcing the opening of Firehouse Subs just a few doors down.

While always sad to see a business go out, very glad to see they plan to reopen as something else. Hopefully the next one will work out better!

Win one and lose one. Another will come to fill that corner. A larder nicer sit down location should be in order for Shane's with better exposure. 50% is better than no percent in that location. Welcome Firehouse and good luck Shane's in finding a better location in the HM Community!

Well, hopefully it's not another Mexican or Chinese restaurant. I don't think we're lacking in that area! I will miss Shanes. How about a better quality BBQ joint?

I like Shane's but this location was never really at the same level as the other locations I've been to. The décor always threw me off and the service was always sub-par. The one up 316 in Bethlehem is great. I hope that when they reopen, it is much better.

Strip mall Blues, sorry to see another business go but it won't be the last. We need good anchor stores and Restaurants. Not sandwich shops and burger bars. We have a beautiful housing community surrounded by small nitch businesses and not a decent restaurant for tens of miles. Sad really. Poor community planning.

If you'd like better BBQ..just head south on Braselton a little ways and check out Butch's All American BBQ. Its across from Fusion in the Chevron Gas Plaza. It's really good BBQ!

DAW- Rephrase that poor community leadership.....welcome to the world of sleepy Dacula, where leadership starts at the top. Mayor, City Manager, city planner on down. When Jimmy and Joey figure out the formula it will be the next phase craze of new development passing them by. Head on over to Suwanee, Sugar Hill, even Old Town Buford and Braselton to find good sit down eating establishments. Welcome to Mayberry Dacula...a town stuck in times gone past.

Mayor Wilbanks has nothing to do with the area around Shane's. That area is not within the city limits of Dacula. Gwinnett County makes the planning decisions over here.

Sorry about Shane's - hate to see a business close. We have found what we think is one of the best BBQ places ever. Southern Smoq BBQ on Sprout Springs Rd - in the Kroger center. Amazing meats, sauces and sides - especially the mac and cheese and fried okra.

The fried okra is another thing I really liked about Shane's.

Referring to the city of Dacula lacking a surplus of decent sit down restaurants - does include leadership.

I stand corrected. Poor community leadership. I Have an Idea, Lets break away from Dacula and form our own Village. now what would we call it?

I just hope that any potential business over will use the existing storefronts rather than keep building new ones that destroy greenspace. Let's make do with all the empty stores that we have around here.

"Firemens Subs " are the best. There is not one near me,but,if I'm in a neighborhood where they are located,I make a special effort to eat there.Everything I have tried with them is so good!!! They will be an asset to the community.

"Firehouse Subs", is their correct name. their founders were Firemen.!!!
