Fail, Dacula. Fail.

While I agree that there could be a better restaurant to go there, the city of Dacula is not going to turn down a business license for another food place. And I can assure you that the Waffle House will always have people in it. Now... we need to find someone with money that is willing to put a "real" restaurant in Dacula. Ate at Jimmy's Waffle House last night! :-))

I agree with you Nicole- We need some more nicer restaurants in the area-not another Waffle House. A Texas Roadhouse, Applebees, Outback would all be nice.
Sara Nerenbaum August 05, 2012 at 12:43 PM
I agree, also! Some of the space in the empty shopping center couldhave been converted. However, you see this all over Gwinnett County. I wont be eating at this WH, as i love going to the one at the Mall of Georgia. There are employees there that get to know there customers and when you go in they call you by name. Everyone once in a while "Big Daddy" would sing you a song and i have never herd anyone complain. i also agree when do need a steak house (not longhorn, last time we eat there it was terrible, gone down hill since ownership changed). i would like to see a IHOP.

Not excited about yet another Waffle House.

What this area needs is a good Meat n Three. Sometimes we crave us some collards, fried okra and a slab of chicken fried steak. Maybe some catfish, hushpuppies and stewed tomatoes. Getting tired of driving to Folks or Papa Jacks.

I really need to try Papa Jacks. A meat and three would be great.
Ed Varn September 10, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Kristi, Papa Jack's is the bomb. Their breakfasts are to die for. The bacon........Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I need an entrenching tool rather than a fork to eat there! "-)
Lori September 11, 2012 at 12:19 AM
Papa Jack's is terrible :( Cracker Barrel and the Diner at Sugar Hill have the best breakfast around :)
Kristi Reed (Editor) September 11, 2012 at 09:39 AM
Ed - You have convinced me. I'll try to remember to take an entrenching tool with me ;)

IHOP is over-priced. At $2.98 for a glass of milk, I’ll stick with Waffle House. I’d like to see a Wendy’s or a Chipole’s in town. Dacula isn’t big enough for any of the big chains like Applebee’s or Olive Garden but maybe someday.
Andrew September 12, 2012 at 02:36 PM
I agree. Good food and Val is great!
Andrew September 12, 2012 at 02:38 PM
We like Dacula to stay a country town. Leave the "hip-hop" for Atlanta.
Andrew September 12, 2012 at 02:43 PM
We need a BBQ joint here in Dacula. Tim's was inconsistant. The first time I ate at Tim's, I thought I found the best BBQ around. Everytime I went back, it was only worse each time. Makes sense he's gone now. Holy Smoke is pretty good and they score a 100% every time.
nicole September 12, 2012 at 02:48 PM
My god, Dacula can stay a country town. No one is asking for HIP HOP ATLANTA in dacula, all we want is a new restaurant instead of waffle house to go to! Is that so bad???? WOW This is so weird to me I even have to defend wanting a new place to eat!!!!!!!
David September 12, 2012 at 02:50 PM
Is Papa Jacks the place at Braselton Hwy and 211? There is a new sports bar in the Dacula area. Stadium Bar and Grill. Where Ivy Creek.KC's was located next to the Publix at Fence Road. Really bad location but someone else is giving it a try. I had lunch there. Nothing really special except for the fries...fresh cut potatoes, not frozen crap.
Kristi Reed (Editor) September 12, 2012 at 02:54 PM
Papa Jacks is next to the Duncan Corners Bottle Shop at the intersection of Mineral Springs and Thompson Mill Road (at the same intersection as the Sonic and Trigger Time).
David September 12, 2012 at 02:54 PM
Its a bit of a drive down to 85 and Old Peachtree but there is a Jim & Nick's BBQ there. And Shane's at Hamilton Mill isn't bad for a semi-fast food BBQ place. Really great service and friendly people.
Kristi Reed (Editor) September 12, 2012 at 02:56 PM
I really like Shane's. The BBQ sampler is great and they make delicious Brunswick stew and fried okra.
David September 12, 2012 at 02:56 PM
Oh, OK. I remember seeing that place. Part of the same building as the bottle shop. I just never seem to get past the bottle shop door...this damned alcoholism skews my vision!
Kristi Reed (Editor) September 12, 2012 at 03:01 PM
It's okay David - I think we may all be a little overwhelmed at the idea of liquor, guns, chocolate malts and a decent breakfast all in one little commercial corner ;)
David September 12, 2012 at 03:06 PM
Very good points. And two more miles to the most used Corps of Engineers facility in America. Ant condos for rent in that area; I may just move!

Nicole, your posts are always good for a smile. When I read your posts I hear Luanne from family guy. You should post more.

There are a lot of restaurants I'd like to see around here but overall I'd really like to see a great privately-owned casual dining restaurant along the lines of Dell Rio in value, quality, and interior but with a menu option more akin to TGI Friday/ Chili's. We've been going to Fatz in Winder (I would love to have a Fatz here, even though I think they're a regional chain) and Fusion as of late when we're not doing the Mexican thing.
Lori March 05, 2013 at 12:55 AM
The best place for breakfast for quality food that isn't a greasy spoon is the Diner at Sugar Hill!!!
Andrew March 05, 2013 at 02:04 AM
Sugar Hill is too "fufu" to be called a Diner. It is a misuse of the word really. I'm from up north (PA & NJ) they have diners. The Cup & Saucer in Loganville is as good as it gets around here. Great food, great people and simple. Breakfast shouldn't be fancy. Simple is the name of the game when you're looking for eggs and such.
Travis May 08, 2013 at 11:32 PM
Meh, i was gonna apply for a job at that waffle house, but it seems like people like it so much.
Andrew May 09, 2013 at 01:08 AM
Val's is great and she is a real sweetheart too!
Andrew May 09, 2013 at 01:13 AM
Driving by the construction site, I have to say it seems like a silly place for anything but maybe a small Krispy Kreme or Duncan Donuts. I feel badly in a way for the Mexican place that is now in the shadows.
Pamela June 12, 2013 at 05:18 AM
I vote YES on the IHOP idea!!!
