Tough Economy Claims Another Local Business

Nature's 5th Season is closing its doors.

Sandy Maresca said the decision to close was not an easy one.

“This has been my life,” she said. “I’m really numb right now.”

Maresca originally opened her shop in Lilburn and later moved the store to Lawrenceville. Eight years ago, she opened a second store in the Hamilton Mill area. Maresca described that decision as a mistake.

“Having two locations was too much,” she explained.

She closed the Lawrenceville location four years ago, and has continued to deal with tough economic conditions ever since.

“I have surrendered to the economy after 25 years with a retail store,” she said.

Though a closing date has not yet been set, Maresca expects to close the store in mid- to late June.

“I am so going to miss Nature's 5th Season and so many of our wonderful friends and customers,” she said.

Maresca is currently in the process of liquidating the remaining merchandise. Old World Christmas ornaments are now 25 percent off and everything else in the store has been marked down 50 percent or more.

The store hours have also been changed. Current operating hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday.

Though saddened by the store’s closing, Maresca remains upbeat and is looking forward to future opportunities.

“When I get out of here and get settled, I’ll see what’s next,” she said.
