Varsity Restaurant to Be Built a Short Drive From Dacula

The location will be a "Varsity Junior" and similar in size to Chick-fil-A.

Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group of Winder has confirmed a Varsity restaurant will be built at Gateway Station off Ga. Highway 316 in Bethlehem. The location is approximately 12 miles from downtown Dacula.

"They will be located in front of the [Carmike] theatre," Bartlett wrote in an e-mail response to Barrow Patch. "We're very excited about The Varsity coming to our project! We're hoping they'll be open by the spring of next year."

I've been eating at The Varsity since I was a kid (no not gonna tell how long but over 50 years). I even remember when I was in Athens and the downtown Varsity was males only!!! Fortunately, they had the one on Atlanta highway that was co-ed. I've eaten at all of the locations and for some reason even though they taste really close, it's just not the same as going downtown and eating in the car under the awning with your own personal carhop! In the sixties, it was the ultimate place to go after a movie date and the deck (Launching Pad) and underneath it was all serviced by carhops who actually road on the hood of your car to your parking place. Sorry MDG but it's Whadya Have. So Whadya Have when you eat at the Varsity? I'm a classical customer, 2 dogs all the way (yes with raw onions!), fries and a large PC. Never ever have I been able to deviate from my standard. This is great news for Bethlehem and for Dacula. The area over in Bethlehem is finally beginnning to take shape. The real estate market crash really did a number to commercial development there. Patch - please keep us up to date on the grand opening. I'll want to be there.
